Summary: + Assume responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice is a newly licensed new to practice RN or RN with less than 15 months of experience that demonstrates basic safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice seeks guidance to integrate concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice exhibits Penn Medicine's experience standards which reflect its mission and are embedded in the professional practice competency domains. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice is accountable for the provision of direct care to patients who may range in age from infancy to the elderly and demonstrates within the competency domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Teamwork and Technology/Informatics. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback while demonstrating growth in the ability to care for increasingly complex patients. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The nurse complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice must complete all Clinical Nurse 1 competencies and is expected to advance to the Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague level by 18 months of professional practice. Responsibilities: + Minimum Required Qualifications: + RN Licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit until an RN license is obtained. + Individuals with Temporary Practice Permits must sit for their NCLEX within 60 days of starting in their RN role. + Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN preferred. The PEC serves as the OB triage unit, HUP's ED for pregnant women greater than 16 weeks gestation. It houses 10 triage beds, and an ultrasound evaluation area and is adjacent to HUPs Labor and Delivery suite. The PEC is one of the initial contact areas for patients with obstetric related concerns. It is staffed with nurses, both NPs, CNMs and RNs who work together to triage and care for each patient, collaborating with the physicians to develop an individual plan of care. While the PEC and Labor and Delivery are distinct units, we function as one cohesive unit that works together to insure quality care to our patients. Each person is an integral part of a TEAM that includes physicians, nurses, surgical technicians, and support staff. With a team approach we are better able to provide this quality care to our population. The Advanced Practice Nurse will report to the Perinatal Nurse Manager who will be responsible for the administrative oversight of the position as it pertains to the Department of Labor and Delivery, as well as, implementation/oversight of selected hospital CEQI indicators that are chosen for each clinical department. The Human Resource issues relating to daily job performance will be the responsibility of the Perinatal Nurse Manager. In addition, the collaborating physician will be an OB/GYN attending or laborist who will be responsible for direct oversight of the clinical role and lead orientation to the clinical unit and ongoing assessment of the clinical skills. The Labor & Delivery at Pennsylvania Hospital provides holistic, family centered services to the childbearing population of the Tri-state area including Central and Southern New Jersey, Northern Delaware, and the Greater Philadelphia area and its suburbs. Labor & Delivery (L&D) is a Level III, tertiary care facility, located on the third floor of the Preston Building, which provides the following services: - Management of the uncomplicated pregnancy in the labor, delivery and recovery period - Management of the complicated pregnancy in the labor, delivery and recovery period - Operative procedures of pregnancy including cesarean section, cesarean hysterectomy, fallopian tubal ligation, and dilatation & curettage (D&E) - Antenatal testing including biophysical profile (BPP), non-stress test (NST), amniotic fluid volume indexing (AFI), and ultrasound - Interruption of pregnancy for genetic indications via cerclage removal, dilatation & evacuation, and prostaglandin induction. Are you living your life's work? LOCATION:Lancaster General Health & Women and Babies Hospital in Lancaster, PA. SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Day Shift. Monday through Thursday with potential for 12 or 10 hour shifts depending on the rotation assignment. This is an 8 1/2 week program which runs from the end of May 2026 through the end of July 2026. Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health invites nursing students to gain hands-on clinical experience through our Student Nurse Extern Program. This paid opportunity pairs externs with experienced RN preceptors across two nursing units in 4-week rotations, allowing students to apply their skills in real patient care settings. Externs will assist with procedures, manage patient assignments, and observe interdisciplinary collaboration. Weekly Educational Extern Conferences support professional development, and an optional winter clinical rotation is offered for those interested in additional clinical growth during their school break. Assists in the provision of patient care under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse. Patient care/customer service includes care/service to patients/customers in the following age groups: newborn, adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and above). What you will do: + Assists RN in completing Nursing Procedures, data collection (Patient Data Base) and patient/significant other education. + Performs and assists RN with skin care and patient hygiene (e.g., dressing changes, duoderm application, and ROM). + Performs basic pulmonary procedures (e.g., voldyne, pulse ox, specimen collection, trach care, and suctioning). + Provides comfort, basic support, and safety measures for patients and significant others. + Completes errands as directed by RN or designee. Qualifications: + CPR Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, required within 30 days of hire.
