Waters Corporation is currently seeking a Principal Consulting Embedded Software Engineer to join our organization. In this role, the individual will join a dynamic and collaborative environment, encouraging cross team development between Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Data Application departments. Specifically, the individual will join our R&D organization which develops our Chromatography Separations based Technologies.

The instrumentation being developed and maintained involves many electro-mechanical sub-systems which provide an exciting opportunity for learning system dynamics and integration of the different technologies.

+ Candidate will be responsible for architecture and designs, software implementations based on those designs, documentation and maintenance of complex, embedded and networked real-time analytical instrumentation systems.

+ This individual should have a C++ background, have strong fundamental skills with respect to object oriented programming, experience in working with instrumentation and control along with background in automation via scripting.

+ A strong familiarity with a structured software development environment is necessary, and the candidate must be highly motivated and self disciplined. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are required.

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
+ 15+ years working within this technical field as a software engineer.

+ Applicant should have the skill to self-manage with good independence and results oriented.

+ Applicant should have the ability to take on software design, architecture and implementation responsibilities using the C/C++ language.

+ Good oral and written communication skills.

+ Additionally desirable: familiarity with good laboratory practice related to testing, test data collection, documentation and presentation, interpretation of wiring diagrams / schematics. Some additional desirable items are the use of electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, experience with MathWorks MatLab and Simulink.

The Role

AspenTech is seeking a senior level position within our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Professional Services organization based in our Houston, Texas office.

As an AspenTech Principal Consultant Engineer you will provide consulting services to our clients implementing our aspen ONE software with a specific focus on the Manufacturing Execution System software products. And have knowledge and expertise to offer data integration solutions to afford aspen ONE Supply Chain software (Petro SC or Chem SC) and aspen ONE MES software to integrate seamlessly to support our customers. The successful individual will be responsible for undertaking consulting services for AspenTech clients in the oil & gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, food & bev, and metals & mining industries, with opportunities to engage in projects globally in North America, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific (including Middle East) to name some regions.

At this level, the candidate will be a key driving force in the delivery of the various software that supplements the MES solutions to new and existing customers. The candidate will strive to learn other aspen ONE products outside of MES. You will become an expert in configuring and using our various platforms, onboarding new customers, and ensuring that all their requirements are met. As well as working with internal product management, marketing, and sales teams, the candidate will also regularly act as the Technical Lead in projects, be accountable for project budget, proper communications with customers via email, web calls, and face-to-face meetings, and achieve on-time delivery.

Your Impact

As a Principal Consultant Engineer your responsibilities will include:

* Technical leadership on AspenTech MES implementation projects. This includes but not limited to:
* Gathering customer requirements and translating those into high-level solution designs for aspen ONE MES products (Aspen Production Execution Manager, Aspen Unified Reconciliation and Accounting, in addition to sister applications within AIoT products Aspen Infoplus.21, Aspen Production Record Manager, aspen ONE Process Explorer, etc.).
* Defining and implementing data integration with external systems and aspen ONE products such as Petro SC (PSC), includes learning the latest Aspen Unified solutions at the level needed for designing data integration

* Deliver technical documents such as Functional Specifications, Detailed Design Documents, as well as Site Acceptance Test Documents
* Be confident, capable, and have solid ability to play a leading role on projects.
* Demonstrate collaboration with the AspenTech Project Management team, Sales Team, involving technical to non-technical aspects of the project.
* Formulating business processes to support the systems.
* Working with clients to implement the systems.
* Commissioning the completed systems which may require on site monitoring and analysis.
* Participation in commercial proposal development and testing of software upgrades.
* Designing and implementing enterprise-wide visualisation and collaboration solutions using AspenTech products or PBI. This also includes integration work with Aspen Supply Chain solutions to support these projects.
* Conducting demonstrations, training, requirements analysis and system design workshops.
* Prepare and adjust training material for MES products and related integration.

What You'll Need

* 6 - 10+ years of experience implementing Manufacturing Execution system software in one or more of the process industries listed above.
* Experience with Programming languages such as .NET, VB, C++, SQL etc. Solid technical programming background is necessary.
* Experience with web development such as ASP.NET, React, Node.js etc.
* Experience with implementation of real-time databases or RDBMS (Oracle and MS SQL Server)
* Ability to travel (typical 25% travel to customers' sites) - part of the consultancy role.
* Demonstrated multi-project experience serving as a technical lead in systems implementations.
* Experience with systems integration technologies (MS SQL Server, ORACLE, SAP, historians).
* Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
* Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills, leadership, and grit.
* Fluent in English. Bi-lingual skills (e.g., Spanish, French, German) are a plus.
* Possess an inquisitive nature and a need to understand why and how things are done, and not be afraid to ask questions.
* Appreciate complexity and relish troubleshooting and solving problems.
* Team Player, demonstrate great organizational skills as there is more than one project to support, and must have a positive attitude.
* Knowledge on Yield Accounting, Oil Movements systems and its integration with upstream/downstream processes, such as data historians and plant scheduling.

The IP Routing Regional Business Center (RBC) Consulting Engineering team drives the technical pre-sales of our IP and network automation technologies and related services to CSPs, Webscale and Enterprise customers. We work closely with the Business Development, Sales, IP Product Management, and IP Product Marketing teams to help effectively capture IP product revenue in the Americas region.

What you will learn and contribute to

You are a strategic partner and advisor for IP products and solutions, responding to the needs of our customers and the sales teams. You have a strong technical background, a clear understanding of the sales process, are self-motivated and able to operate in an independent manner. You drive required next steps toward technical acceptance of Nokia solutions with customers directly or via the systems engineering teams.

•Work closely with the sales teams (sales executives, sales managers, sales engineers) on identifying opportunities and driving IP business to closure.

•Develop the technical strategy for each opportunity with the sales team and drive it to technical acceptance by the customer.

•Be able to meet with influential customer decision makers and communicate verbally or via presentation tools the exact details of Nokia's IP product capabilities and the specific solutions being offered to the customer.

•Develop technical collateral, such as white papers and PowerPoint presentations to demonstrate to customers how Nokia's products and delivery capabilities are their best option for success.

•Work with Product Line Managers to drive product development through customer and industry specific feedback based on current and future requirements.

Your skills and experience

You Have:

•A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science (or related technical degree and/or equivalent experience)
•8+ years of experience as a customer facing pre-sales engineer (or consulting systems engineer, technical marketing engineer, etc.) in an IP focused (IP routing/Data Center/Ethernet switching) role or demonstrated equivalence
•Deep conceptual understanding and hands-on, testing and deployment experience of the following technologies:
•IPv4 and IPv6 Routing technologies including IGP (OSPF and IS-IS) and BGP
•Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN technologies including MPLS, Segment Routing (with MPLS and IPv6 data plane), VXLAN, Pseudowires, VPLS, EVPN, and IP VPNs
•Traffic Engineering including SR-TE and PCE/PCEP architectures
•Modern Data Center networking design and operations including CLOS networks, Underlay and Overlay technologies, and the networking integration to virtualization platforms - k8s, Openstack and VMWare
•YANG models (proprietary and standards), NETCONF, gNMI Telemetry and modern network automation frameworks

It would be nice if you had:

•Product Development skills including:
•Experience driving product lifecycle management requirements
•Ability to write detailed "Feature Request Documents" describing all the detailed software and hardware requirements for new feature development
•Ability to build credible business and technical arguments, including low-level technical discussions on HW and SW, to support feature development requests
•Ability to understand different HW platforms and their capabilities down to the chipset level to drive product evolution discussions
•Familiarity with industry standardization entities like IETF, contributing to emerging standards as required
•Solid customer communication etiquette and presentation skills.
