Products and systems include hydraulic actuation and valve systems, locking actuators, steering metering control valves, fuse pins, hot forged bolts, pneumatic ducting and valve seals, tubing system alignment joints, engine hot section and structural components, airframe components, shock strut bearings, PTFE lined spherical bearings and broad component maintenance, overhaul, spares logistics and power-by-the-hour support services. Sargent is also a major supplier of hydraulic components to the US Navy on all Nuclear Class Submarine programs. Products and systems in this product line include directional control valves, flow control valves, metering valves, restrictor valves, check valves, and electro-hydraulic servo valves. This product line, called the Marine product line, emphasizes stringent adherence to customer technical requirements while delivering a highly reliable product to withstand demanding in-service applications. Sargent has an immediate opening for a Hydraulics Design Engineer to support the Marine product line. Purpose & Scope: The Design Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for applying the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in design, manufacturing, research & development, sales, inspection, and maintenance. The employee in this role will collaborate with peers within all the key business units to provide a robust & timely solution to the customers' current and future design challenges. Enhance your technical skills while working closely with management and the rest of the team on multiple projects. Roles & Responsibilities: Perform engineering analysis (stress, FEA, fatigue) and apply problem-solving methods to support new product development and/or sustaining production of existing designs. Create new designs for conformance to customer requirements & and proper application of engineering principles. Apply, evaluate, and optimize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to facilitate inspection and manufacturing. Write test plans and test reports in support of new programs to demonstrate compliance to customer specifications. Interact with customers to clarify design intent and technical requirements. Maintain accurate, orderly project records, including design and test data, customer specifications, directives, etc. Direct designers & drafters in design concepts and optimization to meet strict deadlines. Provide engineering assistance on development and qualification test programs. Provide engineering assistance to members on the Material Review Board (MRB) to facilitate disposition of non-conforming products. Required Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. 3+ years of design or manufacturing engineering experience. Lower levels of experience combined with advanced degree work may be considered. Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Pro/Engineer or CREO preferred). Proficiency with Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis. Prior experience with finite element analysis (FEA), ANSYS preferred. Prior exposure to fatigue analysis, fastener analysis, and material & process control. Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills. Excellent MS Office skills. Self-starter who demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting customer expectations and delivering results. Ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical problems and communicate in clear simple terms. Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position. Preferred Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Highly Valued - Work experience directly related to hydraulic and/or electromechanical component design and/or manufacture & test (servos, actuators, control valves, manifolds, etc...) Highly Valued - Familiarity with electronic and/or hydraulic control system design. Prior ANSYS and CREO experience. Prior solid mechanics background. Prior experience using MATLAB, Simulink or similar coding languages. Prior exposure to common machining practices and/or metal forming methods & processes. Familiarity with fatigue analysis, fastener analysis, and material & process control. Electrical and/or Mechanical hands-on aptitude displayed through personal hobbies/projects. Prior troubleshooting & root cause corrective action (RCCA) experience. Previous experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related. 0 to 5 years of experience managing construction projects, ideally design-build. Demonstrated knowledge of construction principles, practices, and technology. Previous experience on a successful project management team. Ability to walk a job site, climb ladders, and scale multi-floor scaffolding. Ability to lift objects of at least 50 lbs.
