RESPONSIBILITIES
This candidate will have the opportunity to execute mechanical design of various project types while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines, as well as serve as the daily lead on smaller projects. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents.
Perform airside and hydronic calculations for multiple mechanical systems.
Understand and develop hydronic & air flow diagrams for various system types.

QUALIFICATIONS
4-year degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a preferred mechanical focus. 2-year degrees and MET degrees with work experience will be considered.
Minimum 4 years of experience in facility HVAC design, particularly using Autodesk Revit for drawing development.
Experience in mechanical design for larger industrial and commercial buildings is preferred, with experience in mission critical design a plus.
Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
Experience leading small mechanical design teams and having some client interface experience is preferred.
Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Basic understanding of controls for mechanical systems is a plus.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
LOCATION
This position will begin as remote, with plans to transition to a hybrid role as we continue to grow. We anticipate establishing offices in both the Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas in the near future, at which point it will become a hybrid role.
COMPENSATION
Base Compensation: $90,000-$225,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skills and/or location)

**Preferred Qualifications:**
Proven experience in Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation design across voltage classes ranging from 13.8 kV to 765 kV, including both open-air and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS).
Strong background in physical design and protection & control (P&C) systems for high-voltage substations.
Proficient in preparing detailed engineering deliverables such as: One-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, connection diagrams, equipment arrangement, grounding, foundation, conduit plans, raceway drawings, plan and section views, and signage/nameplate documentation.
Skilled in performing advanced engineering studies and calculations including: Lightning protection analysis, Conduit fill, and voltage drop calculations, Surge arrester sizing and AC/DC station service loading and Auxiliary power equipment sizing.
Experienced in designing various bus configurations for EHV substations.
Proficient in the use of CDEGS, WinIGS, or similar programs for lightning and grounding studies
Proficiency in assessing mechanical forces and thermal effects of high fault currents on rigid bus

**Skills and Abilities:**
Strong foundation in transmission systems, grid stability, fault analysis, and load flow studies, with experience in modeling using ETAP, CYME, PSCAD, and PLS-CADD.
Proficient in EHV substation design (AIS/GIS), including layout planning, equipment selection, grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination (345kV and above).
Familiar with SF6 gas-insulated and air-insulated systems, and well-versed in industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, NESC, ANSI, and OSHA.
Skilled in protection and control integration, including control buildings, panels, and coordination with civil teams on foundations, grading, and drainage.
Experienced in construction practices, commissioning, testing, and interpreting field markups/redlines; knowledgeable in arc flash mitigation and safety compliance.
Effective in managing cross-disciplinary teams, budgets, and timelines; strong communication skills for technical writing, client presentations, and issue resolution.

Position Opening:
SMC is actively looking for a Senior Level Electrical Engineer to direct and execute electrical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and power systems studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
This candidate shall be capable of executing electrical design projects independently, beginning with driving concept level discussions and proceeding through generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. The electrical design scope will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate will be highly capable of interfacing with design leads within SMC (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) as well as externally including architectural, civil, structural, etc.
The ideal candidate will additionally be involved in growing the electrical expertise within the company, through internal training; development and implementation of design standards; oversight and execution of quality control practices.
Responsibilities:
This candidate will have the opportunity to direct and execute the electrical design while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design electrical infrastructure for mission critical buildings and campuses including campus level medium voltage distribution; highly redundant power systems including various redundancy topologies such as distributed and block redundant; on-site generation and UPS backup; typical building systems such as small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm.
Coordinate with all internal and external disciplines for required electrical power connections.
Coordinate monitoring system interfaces for electrical equipment with controls and telecommunications engineers.
Understand and be capable of defining key performance criteria of power monitoring systems (EPMS), including specifications, points lists, and typical network hierarchies.
Review client standards, design criteria, applicable standards, and best practices in order to understand design requirements and apply them.
Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications.
Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents.
Have experience with the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, Power Point, Excel, and Teams.
Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
Have the ability to travel when required to project sites (approximately 10-20% travel).
Have the ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms.
Lead other engineers, designers, and modelers, and coordinate the tasks of multiple teams to execute project delivery of several projects simultaneously.
Mentor and train other engineers, designers and modelers to develop electrical design knowledge base.
Maintain excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Qualifications:
4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus preferred. 2-year degrees and EET degrees with work experience will be considered.
Minimum 8 years of experience in facility electrical design, particularly using Autodesk Revit for drawing development.
Experience in electrical design for larger industrial and commercial buildings is preferred, with experience in mission critical design a strong plus.
Experience performing and reviewing power studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash is strongly preferred.
Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
Experience leading electrical design teams and interfacing with clients is strongly preferred.
Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred; however unlicensed candidates with appropriate on-the-job experience are welcome to apply.
Compensation:

Summary of Duties:
