AIR is seeking a Principal Researcher with expertise in special education research, evaluation, policy, and/or technical assistance for our Learning Supports Program Area within the Human Services Division. The Principal Researcher will lead a portfolio of projects and business pursuits related to federal and state research, evaluation, and/or TA in one or more area(s) of special education. Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

* Build organizational capacity, knowledge and eminence in the area of special education research, evaluation, and/or TA.
* Serve as the principal investigator or project director for large complex research, evaluation, and/or TA projects, including but not limited to federal TA centers. These roles will include leading teams, designing projects, planning implementation and analysis, overseeing tasks, managing budgets, and maintaining client relationships.
* Serve as an expert in the field and disseminate findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports, and presentations at seminars, meetings, and research conferences.
* Mentor junior colleagues by sharing best practices in conducting research, applying evaluation methods, designing TA, and leading project tasks; model effective approaches for solving problems; and provide staff with proactive feedback about their work.
* Lead business development activities and write proposals for grants or contracts to federal, state and, local education agencies, foundations, or other clients.
* Partner with leaders in the program area and broader organization to advance strategic positioning, capture planning, policy/program influence, thought leadership, and talent development.
* Maintain excellent relationships with funders, clients, and other partners; serve as a primary client contact; and actively grow our portfolio of work through these relationships and by staying abreast of the direction of the field.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

* Doctoral degree in special education, educational psychology, school psychology, or a related field
* 7 or more years of project leadership experience, including proposal writing, project management, staff supervision, publishing, report writing, and external relationship management
* Reputation for expertise in special education or a related content area, as evidenced through publications/presentations, award of contracts and grants, and overall body of work
* Proven track record of winning competitive contracts/grants from various funding organizations (e.g., federal, state, and local government; foundations)
* Experience effectively leading and mentoring diverse teams working on research-focused projects and/or tasks within large projects, including managing work to ensure excellence, timeliness, and on-budget execution

**Job Purpose**

The Analytics & Load Forecasting team produces electric and gas forecasts for National Grid. As a Principal Economist, DER & Policy Forecasting, you will ill lead the development of long-term forecasts for distributed resources (including solar PV, energy efficiency, demand response, EVs, storage, etc.), and create long-term outlooks for policy based decarbonization goals for our US service territory. You will support the long-term electric and gas load forecasting teams in integrating DERs and decarbonization forecasts into the long-term forecasts. You will work with the distributed resource, DSM, strategy teams, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure that DER and decarbonization policies and programs are properly modeled.

**Key Accountabilities**

Lead development of long-term forecasts for distributed resources (including solar PV, energy efficiency, demand response, EVs, storage, etc.), and create long-term outlooks for policy based decarbonization goals. Perform additional analysis relating to DERs, DSM, and decarbonization policies in the forecast as necessary.

Work with the electric and gas forecasting teams to ensure the electric and gas load forecasts properly account for distributed energy resources and new technologies and policies.

Update forecast processes and documentation to ensure they are efficient, reviewable, and reliable.

Provide expert testimony before regulators and defend the forecasts. Respond to data request from regulatory bodies for rate cases and other proceedings.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders (including supply, engineering, regulatory, strategy) regarding forecast methodology and analysis and ensure our deliverables meet their needs.

Stay current in all policies, regulatory requirements, market trends, and industry standards regarding customer energy use and technologies and programs impacting that use, such as energy efficiency and demand response.

**Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required**

Effective communication skills including the ability to make persuasive presentations to small and large audience.

Track record of developing working relationships quickly and effectively both internally and externally.

Ability to operate and build relationships across all levels of the organization.

**Qualifications**

A Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in statistics, applied analytics, engineering or related quantitatively rigorous field.
