The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering are seeking candidates for multiple positions of Principal Research Scientist/Engineer in anticipation of securing contract funding in multiple areas of engineering and science to include fields such as modeling and simulation; systems engineering and integration; cyber security engineering; critical infrastructure protection; advanced manufacturing; additive manufacturing; materials science and engineering; assured position, navigation and timing; propulsion systems and project management on multiple programs funded by government and private industry.
These positions will be located in Auburn, Alabama and will report to the Associate Dean for Research, College of Engineering. The successful candidates may also work with leaders of other units such as Auburn's McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security, Cyber Research Center, National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence, and the Huntsville Research Center to identify and develop potential research sponsors in the strategic focus areas of Auburn University research.
Major responsibilities include providing technical expertise, through the various Auburn programs in subjects such as those listed above directly to government and industry sponsors.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to subjects such as cyber security threats and subsequent threat mitigation strategies and methods.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to protecting the nation's critical infrastructure systems (energy, water, transportation, food, commerce, etc.).
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to industry and government sponsors in the broad areas of modeling, simulation, and systems engineering and integration.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, and advanced materials.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders in government and industry related to vehicle dynamics and assured position, navigation, and timing.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to NASA and industry senior leaders in payload integration including requirement definition and verification / validation of potential exploration payloads.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to NASA and industry senior leaders in development and integration of NASA's launch vehicles and exploration programs.
Collaborate with the nation's community of industry, government, and academia on national policy and technology that affects various defense, aerospace, manufacturing, and related industry sectors along with federal, state, and local government agencies.
**Essential Functions**
Conducts contract research and creates progress and final reports as necessary; provides technical management of research contracts and oversees the content and timeliness of contract deliverables.
Develops research proposals and budgets.
Coordinates research opportunities between Auburn University faculty and staff, local government agencies, and private industries.
Initiates and cultivates relationships with agencies and industries in order to build research and educational programs for Auburn University.
Establishes and grows research funding for Auburn University by pursuing local opportunities.
Interfaces with Auburn University faculty and staff to build an in-depth knowledge of on-campus research capabilities.

This highly collaborative project includes a diverse team of researchers working on crop breeding, genomics, genetics, curation, and bioinformatics. This is a benefit eligible, non-tenure track position available for two years. The project will expand the Rosaceae, Citrus, Vaccinium and Pulse crop databases to meet community demand for resources with usable big data aggregated, analyzed, integrated, and visualized, as well as data management and analysis tools.
This specialist based at Auburn University will support (1) collect, curate, and integrate all types of genomics, genetics, and breeding big data in easy-to-use and robust crop-specific databases, and (2) provide scientists/breeders with personalized training for field data collection software, big data management and analysis, and use of database resources, quantify impact of databases on genomics-assisted breeding, and broadly disseminate project activities and outcomes. Additionally, the specialist will work closely with the blueberry breeder at Auburn University to collect and analyze phenotypic, genotypic, and environmental data to build prediction models for key traits of blueberry such as flowering time, yield, and fruit quality.
This position reports to Dr. Sushan Ru at Auburn University. Meanwhile, the PDs of the Washington State University Drs. Dorrie Main and Sook Jung and will closely work together with their cohort of other crop curators and outreach specialists. This position requires frequent travel including driving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
+ Collect and curate genomic, genetic, and breeding data and upload to the Genome Database for Vaccinium and Genome Database for Rosaceae
+ Help create outreach and training materials for specialty crop breeders and researchers
+ Provide webinars and on-site training on how to use the Genome Database for Vaccinium and the Breeding Information Management System (BIMS )
+ Manage mass communication to database users including newsletters and social media
+ Help organize and participate in workshops at conferences
+ Participate in preparation of scholarly publications
**Minimum Qualifications**
The minimum qualification is an earned Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, or closely related field at the time employment begins. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in plant breeding and genetics, research and scientific data management, and familiarity with programing.

The appointment is for an initial period of one year with a possibility of continuance up to a maximum of four years depending on performance and funding availability.
The Program: The Fish Ecology Group at the Ireland Center in Auburn University's School of Fisheries, Aquaculture & Aquatic Sciences is currently involved in research investigating the ecology and management of aquatic organisms in a variety of systems. Recent/ongoing work has included the effects of a peaking hydropower facility on downstream fishes, respirometry and ETS measures of fishes to quantify thermal and DO stress, ecology of coastal fishes in the northern Gulf of Mexico, effects of an introduced planktivore on resident fishes and other aquatic organisms in Alabama reservoirs, adaptations of freshwater fishes to life in estuarine waters, use of lock chambers to pass riverine fishes, management of small impoundments, as well as study of the ongoing study of the effects of lock-and dam structures on riverine fishes. Laboratory and field facilities are outstanding, including expansive pond facilities, large wet labs, controlled environment space, laboratory respirometry capabilities (including both static and swimming respirometry), and recently renovated student office space. Our staff and students work with natural resource agency biologists, travel widely for professional activities, and maintain a team approach to research.
The Postdoctoral Position: We are seeking someone at the postdoctoral level to work with the PIs to provide oversight of the project, helping to coordinate field and lab schedules of graduate students and technicians, and to take the lead on some individual aspects of the project within their particular area of expertise. Ecologists with strong backgrounds in field, laboratory, and/or quantitative approaches (e.g., statistical analyses, behavioral modelling, etc.) are desired. Preparation of manuscripts for publication will be an important aspect of the position, both from this work as well as from the individual's previous work. The salary will be commensurate with the selected individual's experience, and will include benefits, as well as any required technical help, all costs of conducting the research (including travel to field sites, supplies and equipment, etc.), and travel to scientific meetings.

The candidate will lead the investigation in bioprospecting for filamentous algal species in the southeastern U.S. useful for cultivating at-scale for nutrient remediation and biomass production in wastewaters. The project goal is to identify candidate warm-water species of attached filamentous algae strains from selected watersheds in the southeastern U.S. states, especially Alabama and Georgia, and investigate their response to temperature, flow rate, and nutrient concentration in unialgal and mixed cultures in the laboratory. The research position is funded by a U.S. Department of Energy funding award focused on upscaling of filamentous algae cultivation for biomass production in regional climate conditions. Opportunities exist for the candidate to design and implement their own research in algae collection and in experiments related to filamentous algae culturing at various scales and in controlled environmental conditions. **Minimum Qualifications**
The minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Phycology, Applied Phycology, or similar, or in Biosystems, Agricultural, Ecological, and/or Environmental Engineering or similar with experience in algae culturing and cultivation at the time employment begins. Demonstrated experience in algal strain collection and identification in the field, and purification and culturing in the laboratory is a must, as well as some experience with collection and culturing filamentous algal species. Eligibility for a U.S. driver's license is a requirement, and there must be an ability and willingness to perform field work in freshwater stream ecosystems in the Southeastern U.S. over a range of seasonal and strenuous conditions. The candidate will be able to design, develop, and build lab and microcosm-scale experimentation systems for investigation into filamentous algal production and growth, have experience with water quality measurements, and have experience with environmental monitoring protocols.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to translate research into publications, will have strong interpersonal communication and mentoring skills, and have the ability to work effectively as an individual and a member of a team.
**Desired Qualifications**
Familiarity with filamentous algae species collection, culturing, and cultivation is desirable. Familiarity with watersheds in the Southeastern U.S. is likewise desirable. Familiarity with advanced methods for chemical and biological analyses of algae culturing and biomass is additionally desirable.

The funded NIH project (5R01CA267170-03) is examining modulation of the tumor microenvironment and obesity-related colorectal cancer (CRC ) disease progression using tissue-engineered patient derived xenograft (PDX ) CRC models validated through comparison to patient tumors and PDX tumors.
**This is a one-year limited term appointment; continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding and job performance. ***

**Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following** :

3. Performing cell and molecular biology, biochemical, and tissue culture experiments.

5. Sharing general house-keeping duties with other staff working in the laboratory.
6. Presenting data, current projects and results at internal seminars and at external meetings and conferences as required.
7. Assisting in manuscript and grant writing.

**Minimum Qualifications**
Entry into the applicant pool requires a doctoral degree from an accredited institution in biological sciences postgraduate (Ph.D.) field at the time employment begins with a background in cell and/or molecular biology, tissue engineering, or animal physiology.
