Duties / Responsibilities: * Performing air quality research and enhancing retrospective/predictive numerical weather/air quality modeling capabilities through the utilization of satellite observations, advanced parameterization, and improved physics. * Support refinement/evaluation of GOES Product Generation System (GPGS) to generate near-real-time observational products from Advance Baseline Imager (ABL). * Developing techniques for using Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) observations to estimate lightning nitrogen oxides (LNOx) production and to enhance air quality simulations. * Assess the impact of LNOx on air quality using observations from current and future spaceborne observational platforms such as Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring Pollution (TEMPO). * Managing research projects, participating in meetings, and ascertaining pioneering research needs. * Advising students and participating in supervisory committees. * Writing periodic and annual reports. Presenting findings in conferences and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals. Writing proposals and meeting with stakeholders. * Advising Graduate Research Assistants. Minimum Requirements: * Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science (Bachelor's degree and experience in a specialized area may be substituted for a degree). * 4 - 4.5 years of full-time verifiable work experience. * Knowledgeable of atmospheric chemistry as related to air quality. * U.S. Citizenship is required. Desired Qualifications: * Strong background in mathematics and numerical/mathematical modeling is preferred. * 20 years of experience in air quality modeling is desired. * Knowledge of satellite retrieval techniques of atmospheric physical parameters is preferred. * Experience in the utilization of NASA/NOAA satellite data products is desired. * Published track record on enhancing the performance of air quality modeling systems by the utilization of remote sensing data is preferred.
