**How Will You Make an Impact?**
This opening is for a highly qualified and self-motivated individual to support our latest generation LC-MS instrumentation as a Field Application Scientist, with a strong focus on latest generation Orbitrap technology. As a member of the Thermo Fisher Scientific North Americas application support team, the candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary matrix team that includes regional sales representatives, marketing and service professionals, product development scientists, and engineers. Primary responsibilities will be to support the commercial field sales team by providing support for the newest Orbitrap technology, focusing mainly on the small molecule mass spectrometry market with an emphasis on metabolomics and lipidomics applications. The support will mainly be at customer sites (within North America) and focus on rapidly jump-starting customers for future success.
**What will you do?**
+ Provide pre- and post-sales technical and application assistance in response to customer enquiries (both internal and external), including education, training, on-site visits, and remote/virtual support.
+ Build new customer advocates from newly completed sales.
+ Prepare and present technical seminars to existing and potential customers, either as part of the sales process or at organized events.
+ Deepen and broaden Thermo Fisher Scientific's customer relationships with key scientific and educational leaders.
+ Assist in developing insightful content; examples include company hosted websites, videos, seminars, applications reports, eLearning material, etc.
**How Will You Get Here?**
+ The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of related experience with a master's degree as a requirement, or 2+ years of relevant experience with a PhD as a preference.
+ 3+ years of hands-on LCMS experience.
+ Experience with qualitative and quantitative metabolomics/lipidomics LCMS workflows (e.g. untargeted, simultaneous quantitation and discovery, metabolite ID) and associated sample preparation techniques.
+ This position requires extensive contact with customers and therefore outstanding verbal and written communication skills are required.
+ A consistent record to work independently and a strong work ethic is critical.
+ Ability to travel up to 75%.

**Compensation and Benefits**
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $90,900.00-$136,350.00.

**Job Duties:**

**Basic Qualifications:**

- Experience with energetic materials and scale-up processes / safety protocols.
- Experience with binder chemistry for cast cure and pressed explosives.

- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
- Prior experience guiding and mentoring lower-level scientists

Primary Level Salary Range: $135,100.00 - $202,700.00

The fellowship, supported by a National Science Foundation (NSF) institutional postdoctoral training grant, will provide 18 to 24 months of mentored training focused on enhancing access and accessibility to STEM across multiple disciplines. Critically, upon completion of the fellowship period with adequate performance (evaluated multiple times per year using a 360-degree review procedure), the fellow will receive an offer to become a tenure-track assistant professor within the college.
The postdoctoral training period will provide scaffolded research opportunities with a primary and secondary mentor across two departments in the college. Participating departments in this program include: Human Development & Family Studies, Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences, Kinesiology & Health Science, Psychology, the School of Teacher Education & Leadership, and Speech & Hearing Sciences. The purpose of the postdoctoral fellowship is to prepare the fellow to assume research, Extension, faculty, and leadership positions in Relationship Education science, practice, and policy.
Fellows will play a key role in the execution and publication of research studies of relationship education programs (see HealthyRelationshipsUtah.org). Relationship education programs include courses for individuals who are single, dating, married, divorced and remarried. Venues include high schools, jails, community agencies, etc. USU also administers and evaluates Utah's online divorce education program, which is required for divorcing parties with children (see divorce.usu.edu). The Department of Geosciences at Utah State University (USU) seeks a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the NSF-supported project Bridging Geoscience and Engineering to Interrogate Seismic Cycle Processes in the Earthquake Critical Zone (FRES). This position will be supervised by Dr. Alexis Ault and will involve close collaboration with other project PIs and teams at USU (Srisharan Shreedharan, Brady Cox, Dennis Newell), Brown University (Greg Hirth), and California State University Fullerton (Sinan Akciz), as well as collaborators based in Turkey and faculty in USU's broader Earthquake Science Group.
The successful candidate will bring innovative approaches to connect earthquake geology, geochemistry, and mechanics to investigate the earthquake critical zone - the upper ~1 km of faults where earthquake energy, fluids, rocks, humans, and infrastructure intersect to drive seismic hazard. Research will focus on the southern San Andreas fault and the Mw7.6 Elbistan earthquake surface rupture in Turkey, two systems at different points in the earthquake cycle. The postdoc will integrate field-based and experimental observations to advance understanding of deformation in the shallow portion of active faults, shallow rupture dynamics, and interseismic deformation.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Earth Sciences or related field at the time of appointment with experience in earthquake geology in the field or lab (e.g., microstructural analysis and characterization, rock deformation).
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in earthquake geology/fault zone processes, structural geology, or experimental rock deformation of Earth materials.
Strong publication record and demonstrated ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.
