Critical Facilities Technician III
Ashburn, VA Job
The Critical Systems Technician III (Power Distribution) plays a key role in overseeing, maintaining, and ensuring the reliable operation of mission-critical electrical services in data center environments. This includes compliance with contractual commitments, as well as expertise in installing, servicing, testing, commissioning, maintaining, and operating essential electrical equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Scope & Compliance
Collaborate with sales and project teams to interpret project specifications and define field operations scope.
Ensure all project activities align with specifications; provide job-specific technical support as needed.
Interface with manufacturers to resolve on-site technical challenges.
Equipment & QA/QC
Perform QA/QC inspections on all critical power distribution equipment.
Develop and implement MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for power systems.
Conduct preventive maintenance on contracted electrical components.
Installation & Troubleshooting
Install and service power distribution equipment, including testing and troubleshooting of transmission and distribution controls.
Perform functional tests on low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear, relay panels, transformers, ATS, and circuit breakers.
Verify relay settings and logic equations to ensure proper system operation.
Reporting & Problem-Solving
Provide regular project status updates; troubleshoot technical issues in the field.
Respond to service calls and perform specialized commissioning/testing as directed.
Travel & Field Work
Support regional projects and travel nationally-approximately 30%-to assist with out-of-state work (flights covered by the company).
Schedule & On-Call
Predominantly standard business hours (8-10 hour days).
Currently, there are no on-call requirements, though this may change in the future based on operational needs.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in electronics, electrical theory, or related field strongly preferred.
2-5 years of experience with mission-critical electrical systems.
3-5 years of field repair or customer service experience involving UPS, switchgear, batteries, monitoring equipment, generators, or similar mission-critical systems.
Technical Knowledge
Familiarity with NETA standards, IEEE, and NEMA specifications for low/medium voltage switchgear.
Solid understanding of switchgear operation, maintenance, and testing.
Hands-on experience in inspecting, repairing, and reassembling low/medium voltage switchgear.
Proficiency in reading one-line diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
NETA or NICET Level 1-4 Electrical Power Testing Certifications preferred.
Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
Experience with specialized testing equipment and related reporting software.
Certifications & Licenses
NETA/NICET Level II or above (Electrical Power Testing) required.
NFPA 70E Low & High Voltage certification required.

CDL-A truck driver requirements:
At least 21 years of age
Valid CDL-A
At least 6 months over the road experience
No more than 2 preventable accident in the most recent 3 year driving period.
