Job Description:
SUMMARY
Teaches a full range of skills and knowledge for the certificate program in Comprehensive Patient Access Specialist. Prepares students to pass the Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) examination.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Deliver a comprehensive range of skills and knowledge required by the Workforce Career and Economic Development Division for the Health Industry Solutions, particularly within the Patient Access Specialist program
* Provide effective leadership, supervision, and control of classroom activities, ensuring a conducive learning environment
* Implement the approved healthcare training curriculum to enhance the learning experience of program participants
* Present well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities that align with the course syllabus (including medical terminology, Electronic Health Records, Ucertify, Fundamentals of Billing/Reimbursement, Introduction of Patient Access and CHAA study guide) and school policies
* Monitor attendance, maintain accurate, up-to-date records, and evaluate the educational performance of participants in accordance with college and department requirements
* Identify and refer participants to supportive services when necessary to enhance student success
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current changes and trends in the healthcare industry
* Promote students' development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, computation, problem solving, and decision-making
* Provide students with timely information and feedback on their academic progress regarding quizzes, tests, homework, and projects
* Follow all College retention policies to ensure student attendance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Associate degree
* Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Patient Access Specialist or Patient Service Representative in a hospital setting
* Must possess CHAA or CHAM certifications
* Must be an approved proctor through NAHAM
* Prior classroom instruction and/or training experience in healthcare

Stays updated with all point of service, pre-registration, registration, detail charge entry, insurance verification, authorizations for outpatient appointments or other services as appropriate to the staffing needs per location, and scheduling needs of the department. Answers questions and assists in problem solving; Provides technical guidance to staff as well as evaluates the success of their overall learning experience and makes recommendations for performance improvements to Patient Access Leadership.
Facilitates the delivery of training and orientation to the front desk, scheduling, pre-registration, and check-out staff new to CCOC, in addition to providing continuing education to existing staff; Facilitates training sessions in department meetings, individualized instruction, or in the classroom as needed; Trains the point of service staff on co-pay collection, balancing, and batching polices.
Acts as a mentor, coach, and role model using procedural, and customer service skills and actively promotes patient access initiatives; Leads by example in conducting customer service that is consistently positive, professional, supportive and cooperative; Assists Supervisor to ensure scheduling guidelines are up to date and current.
Provides financial counseling services for patients that are uninsured, under-insured, and/or scheduled for surgery; Recruits, registers, and trains patients on how to use Patient Portal systems. Performs Scheduling or Registration functions in a timely and accurate manner: working with TH ancillary departments to coordinate care and communicate with patients and physicians/offices to obtain information necessary to schedule and/or register patients. Provide excellent customer service and answer patient questions and resolve issues. Collect of copays, standard deposits and deductibles. SCHEDULING: schedule physician ordered tests in accordance with department guidelines; correlate medical diagnosis with ordered tests/procedures for medical necessity purposes that is required to receive reimbursement. REGISTRATION: educate patients on TH required legal compliance paperwork and provide financial triage (can properly direct patient with financial questions and explain concepts of insurance).
Job Requirements:

Ability to operate multiple computer applications
Excellent verbal and written skills
Typing speed of 35 wpm
Medical terminology required within first year of employment if not already taken
