Step Up Tutoring is a non-profit organization that drives student success in under-resourced communities by providing free virtual tutoring and mentorship to elementary school students. Step Up recruits, trains, and supports tutors to deliver virtual high-impact tutoring for students in grades 2nd-6th. Student workers will provide 1-on-1 tutoring to 2nd-6th grade students to help build fundamental math and literacy skills and to provide support and encouragement. All tutoring will take place virtually and no prior tutoring experience is needed. Student workers will be matched with a minimum of 3 students, which is 7 hours of work a week, and may tutor more students based on award amount and on schedule/total hours of availability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Work virtually with students in 2nd-6th grade for 45-minute sessions, a minimum of twice a week.
* Tutor/Mentor a minimum of 3 students.
* Focus on building fundamental math and literacy skills using evidence-based online programs.
* Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Minimum Qualifications
* No tutoring experience required.
* Enrolled in a degree-seeking program at Liberty University.
* Have Federal Work Study eligibility.
* Have 7 to 20 hours of work availability per week.
* Must pass various background checks, including, but not limited to, a check at the time of initial employment and subsequent checks on behalf of the Federal Work Study Community Service Project site as well as Liberty University. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required):
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's Degree and/or meet the licensure eligibility requirements set by the Virginia Department of Education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in adult education particularly in GED and English Language Acquisition programs. A strong understanding of curriculum content and instructional methods tailored to adult learners in GED, workforce, and English Language Acquisition is ideal. The purpose of this job is to assist the special education teacher in providing functional, instructional and behavioral support to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
Essential Duties
Complies with assignments and extracurricular duties outlined by the supervising teacher or administrator.
Complies with all School Board Policies and State Laws relative to special education or general education classroom operations.
Maintains confidentiality of the students in their care, including student records, as well as student actions and behaviors in the school environment.
Assists the supervising teacher in implementation of instructional activities and behavioral interventions, as well as implementation of services and supports outlined in students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Assists in preparation of the classroom environment and materials, including acquiring resources within the school environment, as needed. This may include use of assistive technology and other such equipment that is required for the student in the school setting.
Assists the supervising teacher in providing for individual needs, preferences and interests of students.
Assists the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack time, bathroom time, lunchroom,and activity periods.
Assists students with daily life activities as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator, including but not limited to: toileting, mobility, dressing, basic hygiene, and communication.
Participates in in-service training programs, as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Some experience working with disabled children is preferred. Training in High Scope, Conscious Discipline, ExCELL, and/or other Prek based programs preferred.
