The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Transitional Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 position located at the Johnson Youth Center in Juneau, AK. This position will be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicant's qualifications and job experience. What You Will Be Doing As a juvenile probation officer (JPO) you will be working to positively influence, motivate, and steer young offenders toward community restoration and developing competencies to lead a productive and crime free life. The Working Environment You Can Expect This position is conveniently located in the capitol city of Juneau, AK at the Johnson Youth Center, 3252 Hospital Drive. Ample parking and an individual private office are provided to juvenile probation officers. While most of the work is local to Juneau, supervising our probationers does require travel to other communities, working a variety of hours, and sharing on-call responsibilities with other staff. In addition to Juneau, we supervise youth in Gustavus, Haines, Hoonah, Skagway, and Yakutat. This is a flexibly staffed position at the JPO 1 or 2 level, a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This position requires the ability to assume on-call duties on a rotating basis, after hours in the evenings and on weekends. Supervision of probationers also requires travel to outlying communities. All Adult Probation Officer 1 positions are flexibly staffed. Advancement to the Adult Probation Officer 2 level occurs only when the incumbent successfully completes all training, including the specified terms of the APSC training and certification requirements, and is certified by the supervisor as prepared to perform at the next level. As a condition of continued employment, these individuals must obtain a basic correctional officer certificate issued by the APSC within 14 months of hire. The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 position in Nome at Nome Juvenile Probation. What You Will Be Doing: Influence, motivate, and steer young offenders to work towards community restoration and developing the competencies they need to lead productive and crime free adult lives. The supervision and accountability-based services you provide will be challenging but in return produce major, long-term benefits to the families and youth served. In addition to Nome, we supervise probationers in Shaktoolik, Savoonga, Elim, Gambell, Teller, Shishmeraf, Golovin, Koyuk, St. Michael, Stebbins, White Mountain, Unalakleet and Brevig Mission and Little Diomede. While most of the work is in our office, supervising our probationers requires travel to other communities, working a variety of hours, and sharing 'on-call' responsibility with other staff. Some escort travel and flexable scheduling is required. This is a flexibly staffed position at the JPO 1 or 2 level, a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This position requires the ability to assume on-call duties on a rotating basis, afterhours on evenings, weekends and holidays.
