Job Description Through its merger with Oil Search, Santos has acquired and assumed operatorship over a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaskan North Slope, USA. Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day. First oil is anticipated by June, 2026. Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play an important role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk. The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years. The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites for future development phases. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska. Reporting to the Production Surveillance Team Lead, the Production Engineer will be a member of the Subsurface Production Surveillance Team. This team will be responsible for the day-to-day surveillance of all Pikka production and injection wells, including optimization of gas lift rates and injected fluid (water and gas) rates. The team will work closely with the Production Operations group to ensure Pikka production and injection are optimized and maximized each day, and monthly allocations are completed accurately. Also, close collaboration with Drilling & Completions is necessary to identify and develop well work intervention procedures and economic justification. The Production Engineer is a key member of the Subsurface Team that is primarily tasked with the development of the Nanushuk field on the Alaska North Slope. The Nanushuk field, which is located adjacent to several giant producing oil fields, was discovered in 2013. 19 exploration and appraisal wells have been drilled in the field, which, combined with full coverage of 3D seismic data, have delineated a giant oil resource. Santos Alaska expects that the initial development will target approximately 500 million barrels of oil in the field, with first production anticipated in 2026 and plateau production rates of 80,000 BOPD (gross). 19 Development wells have also been drilled with 15 frac'd and 13 flowed back and analysed. This data has been key in supporting and updating initial production forecasts. Through its merger with Oil Search, Santos has acquired and assumed operatorship over a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaskan North Slope, USA. Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day. First oil is anticipated by June, 2026. Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play an important role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk. The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years. The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites for future development phases. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska. Donlin Gold is recruiting a Senior Mine Planning Engineer for one of the world's largest undeveloped gold deposits, owned and operated by Donlin Gold LLC, which is owned by affiliates of NOVAGOLD Resources and Paulson Advisers LLC. Donlin Gold is designed to be one of just a handful of gold mines worldwide that produces more than one million ounces of gold annually. Post Description: Reporting to the General Manager, the Senior Mine Planning Engineer's primary responsibilities include life-of-mine planning, pit and waste design, mine scheduling, and equipment optimization, in addition to occasionally supporting other areas of the project involving ports, transportation infrastructure, mining, and the environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of mining experience, preferably in large-scale open pit operations-and demonstrate strong technical proficiency in mine planning software, reserve estimation, and interdepartmental coordination. This position requires occasional travel to remote site locations and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a world-class mining project in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: Perform strategic mine planning, pit and waste storage facilities design, scheduling and scenario analysis. Produce the annual detailed Life of Mine plan and schedule. Prepare mine designs with optimized ultimate extents, phasing, mining method selection and waste storage facilities. Develop life of mine plans from resource models and business forecasts including all aspects of mine planning, reporting, development and plan execution such as mine safety, quality projection, equipment recommendation, volumetrics, reserve estimation, sequencing, scheduling and environmental considerations. Determine optimal heavy mobile equipment fleet based on production requirements, site specific conditions, ramp and bench configurations. Equipment evaluation and selection. Assist in preparation of site budgets and capital requests. Coordination with Geology, Processing, Mining, Environmental and Business Senior Staff/Management. Communication and presentation of the mine plan to stakeholders: Management, Processing, Mine Operations, etc. Cut-off grade determination and stockpiling strategy. Perform annual Reserve/Resource estimation and reporting. Education and Experience: BS Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 12 years' mining experience required, 15 years preferred. 2 - 3 years' experience at an operating mine site required, large scale open pit preferred. 2 - 3 years' experience as a short/medium term planning engineer. Minimum of 2 years long-term planning experience. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of strategic planning for this type of project including a confident understanding of the global key drivers that affect the optimization of the project as a whole. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and mine planning software (Whittle, Vulcan, Deswik, etc.). Experience with fleet management systems (Dispatch, MineStar, etc.). Excellent understanding of the mining industry, industry practices, regulations and technical advancements. Extensive knowledge and understanding of mine planning and mine surveying functions for large scale open pit operations. A proven history in delivering results to schedule and budget while having demonstrated a proactive commitment to a safe working environment. Experience working in a multicultural environment. Experience working in a cold climate environment. Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and build effective relationships and networks. Will be required to travel. Authorized to work in the United States. Other related duties as assigned by management. This position is based in the Anchorage office, and the selected candidate must be willing to travel to visit contractors and conduct site visits, especially during construction.
