Job/Position Summary The Materials Development Engineer is responsible for developing piezoelectric and dielectric ceramic materials and associated processing technology. This position reports to Ceramic R&D Engineering Manager. Primary Responsibilities Develop piezoelectric and dielectric ceramic materials that meet customer or market driven requirements and company strategic direction Hands on preparation and characterization of lab size batches and materials. Develop powder processing and sintering technology to reproducibly manufacture formulations Develop intellectual property in the area of piezoelectric and dielectric ceramic materials Characterize dielectric, piezoelectric and mechanical properties of materials Support production launch of new material formulations and related processes Communicate ideas, concepts and results effectively through verbal and written communication Presentation of experimental plans and results to peers and management Requirements MS or PhD in Ceramics, Materials Science or related discipline required 4-5 years of experience with ceramic processing with emphasis on mixed oxide powder processing is required. Specific experience with piezoelectric ceramic materials is preferred. In this role, you will contribute to the development of critical process systems for the Hermes reactor, our first-of-a-kind low-power nuclear demonstration reactor. The position requires an aptitude for chemical engineering, systems integration, and industrial or pilot-scale system deployment. You will collaborate closely with mechanical design, plant layout, piping, instrumentation, and operations teams to integrate and optimize these systems. About the Role Job Overview: Pacific Fusion is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong manufacturing and NPI experience to lead the build center for our nuclear fusion demonstration system. You will bridge the gap between design and production by developing mechanical design improvements, designing tooling and assembly solutions, and ensuring equipment and facility infrastructure operate reliably as we scale production.
