Principal Activities
· Acting as first line QA contact for customer calls regarding product problems; then liaising internally with appropriate persons to give the customer a prompt response.
· Raising and closing In Service Defect Reports (ISDRs).
· Where appropriate raising of Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and leading root cause corrective action (RCCA).
· Participate in product improvement programs to correct in-field defects and manufacturing abnormalities.
· Working with production and other departments to resolve queries.
· Carry out detailed "root-cause analysis" and formulate corrective actions. Manage the process of driving changes and improvements as a result of this.
· Liaising with purchasing and with suppliers to resolve any supplier certification issues.
· Direct contact with customers and suppliers on QA related matters.
· Provide technical guidance on quality standards, specifications, and processes.
· Drive improvements in key defect drivers, processes, and systems to enhance assembly performance and meet site quality objectives.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
· A strong interest in Quality Assurance in the widest sense is prerequisite with an aptitude for problem solving and continuous improvement.
· The job holder should have an outgoing personality and be comfortable dealing with customers and internal personnel at all levels.
· Excellent problem-solving skills aimed at identifying and correcting the root causes of problems.
· Demonstrated working knowledge of problem-solving tools: 5-Whys, failure mode and effects analysis, 8-D, Pareto analysis, fault tree analysis, Bayesian inference and Ishikawa diagrams.
· Thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project, and other applicable tools.
· Knowledge of Mil Spec Standards.
Education & Experience
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a technical field required with relevant work experience.
· Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO9001 quality management systems.
· Experience in Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement practices.
· Experience with leading root cause corrective action (RCCA) and applying quality methodologies and tools.

The Role
As a Machining & Manufacturing Engineer at iRocket, you will own the development, optimization, and scaling of high-precision manufacturing processes for rocket hardware. You will work cross-functionally with design, test, supply chain, and quality teams to mature processes from prototype through production. You will report to the Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.
Develop, validate, and refine machining processes (CNC turning, milling, EDM, grinding, etc.) for rocket components
Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability, offer design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback, and propose design changes where beneficial
Create and maintain manufacturing BOMs, process flows, work instructions, and SOPs
Support installation, calibration, qualification, and commissioning of new machines and tooling
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for production issues and drive corrective and preventive actions
Implement process controls, error-proofing, statistical monitoring, and quality gates
Participate in manufacturability reviews and design reviews to provide input from a manufacturing perspective
Document and drive continuous improvement in process maturity, standardization, and scaling
Support aerospace / defense compliance efforts (e.g. AS9100, aerospace quality standards)
Occasionally support mission-critical deadlines which may require non-standard hours
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline
3+ years of experience in machining / manufacturing engineering in aerospace, defense, or precision industries
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, fixtures, tooling, materials, machining best practices
Hands-on experience developing machining processes, tooling, fixturing
Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Ability to work cross-functionally, strong problem solving, and data analysis skills
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Master's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
Experience with aerospace quality systems (AS9100, NADCAP, etc.)
Familiarity with additive manufacturing, welding, exotic materials, or hybrid manufacturing methods
Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Kaizen)
Proficiency in CAD/CAM or manufacturing software (e.g. NX, SolidWorks, Mastercam, etc.)
Experience in propulsion, space, or high-reliability systems

Summary of Job:
A Manufacturing Engineer designs, plans, and supports manufacturing processes, designs tooling, creates supplemental models and drawings, and maintains part specific data (including manufacturing methods) in the site ERP system. As a build to print plant, ME's interpret the customer TDP's for usage in all process design activities and are flowed out in process documentation. ME's also maximize process efficiency through the usage of lean manufacturing principles, techniques, and tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Store customer TDP data in a PDM environment
Interpret customer technical data to plan manufacturing processes
Enter and maintain process data in site ERP system
Use Solidworks to prepare technical drawings and models
Use Solidworks to design and draft fixture and tooling for assembly and manufacturing
Review and approve manufacturing drawings, models, and processes
Review and approve manufacturing work orders
Project leader on NPD product for small or medium sized projects
Work with outside vendors to clarify requirements or resolve manufacturing issues
Applies basic statistical methods to variety of situations
Identifies, recommends and initiates continuous improvement projects in regards to processing, tooling, and product flow
Requirements
Required Education/Experience/Certifications:
Knowledge equal to a bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering or related field
2 to 6 years of experience
Has experience with milling, turning, and simple mechanical assemblies (riveting, installation of bearing and bushings, fasteners…)
CNC programming experience is a plus
History of process design and planning for manufacturability and ease of next assembly
Capable of collaborating and working with machinists and assemblers to develop and troubleshoot manufacturing processes
General understanding of materials (aluminum and steel preferred) and common treatments and finishes of
