Position Summary
The Manufacturing Associate supports daily production by operating equipment, assembling and inspecting products, and ensuring work is performed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This role follows standard work instructions, quality requirements, and lean manufacturing practices to meet production goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate production equipment and tools according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Assemble products/components, package finished goods, and label per specifications
Perform quality checks (visual inspection, measurements, defect identification) and document results
Load/unload materials, stage work-in-process (WIP), and maintain line flow
Follow safety rules, wear required PPE, and report hazards or near-misses immediately
Maintain a clean, organized workstation (5S)
Accurately complete production paperwork, scans, and/or basic data entry
Support changeovers, basic troubleshooting, and minor preventative maintenance as trained
Work collaboratively with team leads, maintenance, and quality to resolve issues
Meet productivity, quality, and attendance standards
Qualifications (Required)
Engineering Degree (or equivalent years experience)
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
Basic math and measurement skills (ruler/caliper use a plus)
Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks
Able to lift up to 35-50 lbs (adjust as needed), bend, reach, and push/pull carts
Willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
1+ year manufacturing, warehouse, assembly, CNC, molding, or packaging experience
Forklift/pallet jack experience (or willingness to train/certify)
Familiarity with lean/5S, ISO, GMP, or cleanroom environments (as applicable)

Qualifications & Experience
Required

ABOUT THE ROLE
This internship is for Summer 2026.
The ProcessEngineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for learning and subsequently implementing the Cornerstone Production System methodology on multiple production lines and throughout different systems and processes. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role will be on-site in Marion, OH and will work closely with the operations team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Designs the ability to produce a quality product into the process.
Identify and analyze manufacturing problems to control and improve manufacturing.
Develops all necessary process and audit documentation (i.e. Visual Work Instructions, Standard Work Combination Table, Process Control Adherence Audit, etc.)
Assesses existing processes for areas of improvement utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts (Kaizen, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) Six Sigma, designed experiment techniques, capability studies, etc.
Designs and/or sources equipment for manufacturing processes; evaluates and recommends implementation of competitive technology.
Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with plant maintenance to ensure that the facility and equipment are maintained and updated consistent with short- and long-term goals and objectives.
Provides training, as required, to associates.
Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with Quality Assurance, to monitor and document quality standards.
Presents capstone project as directed at the conclusion of the internship program.
Performs other duties as assigned.

A Day in the Life:
No two days are ever the same in this role.
Tasks can include:
Training operators in proper process, tool usage, and tool maintenance.
Collaborating with other engineering teams on process efficiency, quality, and safety improvement projects.
Developing new designs using 3D modeling software like Solidworks for carts or production tools. Then work with the fab shops to complete the fabrication of them in a timely manner.
Work closely with contractors to coordinate utility needs such as air and electrical drops, and oversee the installation of new equipment.
Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance tasks on machinery.
Troubleshoot machines whenever the team needs extra support.
Provide hands-on support to production lines as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the design, optimization, and implementation of recovery processes for nickel, cobalt, lithium, and other materials from Li-Ion batteries
Develop and execute small capital projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring alignment with site objectives and best practices
Champion continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing LEAN, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance process reliability, safety, and performance
Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of process issues
Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Commercial, and HSE teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and products, and compliance with regulatory standards
Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements
Facilitate Management of Change (MOC), incident investigations, and corrective action implementation
Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOP), commissioning protocols, and maintenance plans for new equipment
Create and monitor operational KPI dashboards to identify and drive improvement opportunities
Mentor and develop junior engineers and cross-functional team members
Represent the site in customer-facing discussions regarding technical requirements and new product introductions

Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
