Position Responsibilities Develop safe procedures and lock out/tag out instructions for new and existing equipment and processes Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports to improve processes or equipment Investigate equipment failures and performance issues to diagnose root causes of safety, quality, or productivity issues and make recommendations to maintenance for resolution Understand potential chemical reactions and chemical compatibilities for new and existing processes Develop and execute tooling design, build, and maintenance plans Working knowledge of basic automated manufacturing machine elements including pneumatics, hydraulics, PLC's, switches, etc. Estimate costs, obtain quotes, and present recommendations for process and facilities equipment and construction projects. Prepare related project documents, including RFQ (requests for quotes), quote comparisons, PRA (purchase request authorization), purchase contracts, Gantt charts, and others as required. Prioritize project requests with manufacturing leadership and other internal customers. Coordinate execution of projects with Maintenance and Production teams. Write standard work for processes and set target production rates Apply lean and continuous improvement management principles throughout the department's daily activities Flexible work schedule to include coordination of 24-hour on-call service to manufacturing maintenance and off-shift problem resolution Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork Other duties as assigned Knowledge and Experience 0-5 years of manufacturing engineering experience Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, coaching, and conflict resolution. Working knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards including lockout/tag out, confined spaces, blood borne pathogens, machine guarding, hazardous communication, personal protective equipment, etc. Familiarity with and prior utilization of continuous improvement manufacturing concepts, including lean and Six Sigma methodology. Location: Valley, NE (onsite) A Brief Summary of This Position: This Individual Contributor position is accountable for the division's manufacturing Engineering functions involving capital and expense project management to include identification, analysis, justification, and installation; manufacturing problem solving related to cost reductions, capacity, planning, safety, quality, or manufacturability; and new product support, including marketing and product engineering inquiries related to cost, processes, or manufacturability. Essential Functions: This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager and has no direct or indirect reports This position works with all levels of manufacturing in the manufacturing environment (maintenance, operators, supervisors, managers, safety, etc.) Drives and manages engineering solutions to resolve manufacturing problems (i.e., safety hazards, machine breakdowns, capacity constraints, quality, material handling, and processes) Ability to work by oneself and be a small team leader Assist in the development of short- and long-term capital budget plans Focus on operating costs, labor, material, and variable to aid in identifying cost reduction opportunities Specify new tooling, equipment, and methods or modifications to old, to improve cost, safety, quality, equipment, and cycle times Present funding requests in written form to upper management Utilize CAD for equipment, tooling, and layouts Participate in special projects relating to product development or extension. Prepare cost estimates as required. Work closely with manufacturing, tool and die, and vendors in those projects requiring their involvement. Know the Valmont Safety Mission Statement & support the department's Safety by Objective plan in departments by assisting implementation of identified safety projects requiring engineering support Other Important Details about the Role: This role requires strong manufacturing engineering expertise with a focus on methods improvement, cost analysis, plant layouts, tooling design, and planning processes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for vendor interactions and presenting projects to leadership and production teams. The incumbent will work under supervision to evaluate, select, and implement solutions to diverse manufacturing challenges. They must be capable of managing projects from conception to completion, ensuring performance, cost, and schedule goals are met, while providing necessary documentation and justification. Acting as a team leader on most projects is expected to foster employee involvement and shop floor engagement. Required Qualifications of Every Candidate: Preferred Bachelors with 5+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 7+ years relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience 2+ years of experience delivering solutions and collaborating across all levels of the business Proven problem-solving ability in environments involving welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, press working, machining, and ERW tube manufacturing and planning Project management and team leadership experience Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Access Strong 3D CAD design skills Willingness to travel up to 5% domestically Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment Thorough knowledge of fabrication and welding procedures, processes, and QA methods used at Valmont Professional Engineer (PE) certification Benefits Valmont offers employees and their families a comprehensive Total Wellbeing benefit package to ensure their individual and family's overall wellness needs are met.
