Materials and Process Engineering Technologist

Responsible for day-to-day operations-related activities of four lab-scale printers such as start of builds, exchange of materials, and preventative maintenance work.

What You'll Do:

- Work closely with the Senior Computational Material Scientist and Materials & Process Engineer to develop additive manufacturing materials and process parameters
- Complete Operator training which will include in part: basic maintenance and job preparation steps, material loading, powder recovery, part extraction and cleaning, filter exchanges, etc. This position involves a 90-day contract, with evaluation at the end if performance is satisfactory
- Operate, maintain, and improve additive manufacturing machines to maximize part quality, machine up-time and production throughput, while meeting schedule expectations
- Track related consumable supplies and work with supply chain when additional supplies are required (procurement and maintenance of powders, hand tooling, build plates, process gas, filters, etc.)
- Follow standardized file systems, ensuring traceability of documentation for all machine related tasks
- Change machine materials and clean out machines when required
- Support removal of powder from parts before post-processing begins
- Set up machines for next builds using standardized methods and checklists
- Manufacturing environment, work is often performed wearing PPE such as a respirators
- This position may be on first, second, evening, and/or weekend shift

What You Have:

- High School Diploma, Current college student (chemical, mechanical or materials engineer) with a 3.0 minimum GPA
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing technology and related operations practices
- Experience and/or knowledge of 3D printing
- Ability to carry up to 50lbs

We are looking for Process Engineering Technician II to join our Austin, TX team. As a uniquely qualified candidate, you will:

Work closely with engineering to develop new process parameters, tooling, and methods for manufacturing.
Executes equipment installation qualifications.
Work with other technicians/operators to implement assembly techniques, inspection methods and required documentation.
Work with engineers to streamline process to meet manufacturing build time and yield targets.
Leverage previous methods/processes/equipment/tooling on new applications.
Verify components meet specifications through benchtop, functional, and load testing.
Work with engineers to generate draft work instructions, test methods, and visual standards.
Supports process characterization by collecting and analyzing data.
Follow good manufacturing practices (GMP) and company Operating Procedures: line clearance, work instructions, lot travelers, etc.
Communicate issues to engineering for collaborative continuous improvements.
Maintain cleanliness of the work environment.

Education and Experience

Minimum 3 years' experience in medical device manufacturing (catheter assembly preferred)
Demonstrated ability with typical processes/methods/equipment/tooling related to medical device manufacturing and inspection (catheter manufacturing preferred).
Able to troubleshoot typical issues on existing processes/methods/equipment/tooling.
Extremely hands on with strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to read engineering drawings and understand inspection requirements.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of medical device processing equipment and manufacturing processes (catheter manufacturing preferred).
General knowledge of some of the following process: Braiding, Adhesive Bonding, Lamination, Die Bonding, Machining, Injection Molding, Laser Welding.
