Description

$2,000 Sign on Bonus (Internal transfers and rehires of less than a year are ineligible)

The Lab Specimen Processor reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The specimen processor is responsible and accountable for receiving, processing, labeling, distributing specimens, and performing non-high complexity testing as required. The position requires a thorough understanding of laboratory specimens as well as the HIS/LIS computer systems. The Processor will be required to perform customer service duties and other clerical duties as the job dictates.

  • About the Role

    The Accessioner/Laboratory Specimen Processor is responsible for proper handling and processing of incoming laboratory specimens for analyzing in the Lab.

    Responsibilities

    • Verifies all specimens that come in are labeled appropriately and that they match the labels on the requisition to ensure that there are no issues with patient identification and reporting
    • Prepares specimens received for testing in reference laboratory
    • Enters patient demographics into the electronic medical record
    • Reviews and accessions specimens and testing orders for laboratory analysis
    • Assists technologists and technicians with the operation of standard laboratory instruments
    • Performs routine laboratory assistant duties according to agency standards and protocols
    • Performs specimen or reception check, and records information
    • Performs proper storage of specimens after testing and properly discard according to SOPM
    • Cleans work area and surrounding laboratory after completion of work day
    • Requisition review and restock department daily

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma and/or 1 year experience working in a similar role
    • Strong data entry and organizational skills
    • Great attention to detail
    • Understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance
    • Knowledge of general laboratory safety issues and universal precautions
    • Prior phlebotomy or accessioning experience
    • Medical terminology and laboratory testing requirements, including the ability to differentiate different test tube types

    Job Description:

    JOB SUMMARY
    Work Shift: 8:00 pm-2:00 am, Monday - Friday; some weekend coverage as needed. 30 + hours/week

    This position may be eligible for a sign on bonus and evening and night pay differential!

    The Lab Processor enters requests and verifies receipt of lab samples for Marshfield Labs. The individual will check samples for proper identification requirements and suitability for testing based on specified requirements and defined rejection criteria. The Lab Processor processes acceptable specimens so they are available for testing or proper storage within the technical areas. The Lab Processor independently completes lab processing duties, including troubleshooting, and determining and communicating resolutions to clients and/or management.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS
    EDUCATION
    Education qualifications must be from a school whose accreditation is recognized by Marshfield Clinic Health System.
    Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
    Preferred/Optional: High school advanced science coursework. Post‐secondary courses in one or more of the following areas: medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, keyboarding, computers, medically related courses or related field.

    EXPERIENCE
    Minimum Required: Prior experience in a clerical, customer service or (computer-related) keyboarding role.
    Preferred/Optional: Prior experience with sample preparation or processing.
