Regularly monitor panel board and adjust controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation, and distribution of water. Correctly adjust specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride, and lime into water or adjust automatic devices that admit specified amount of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water. Start agitators to mix chemicals and allow impurities to settle to bottom of tank. Monitor Distribution system and adjust flow rates to adequately maintain system operation. Clean tanks and filter beds using backwashing (reverse flow of water) at scheduled intervals. Start and stop chemical feed equipment as required. Regulate valves and flow dials to maintain filter and pumpage rates. Increase/decrease chemical feeding rates as required. Adjust pumps and chemical feeding equipment as required. Perform basic chemical tests: alkalinity, pH, chlorine, hardness, turbidity, and fluoride. Accurately test water samples and follow standard titration procedures and record results in logs. Perform routine maintenance in plant using hand and power tools. Accept after-hour inquiries and facilitate a response by calling in necessary staff. Manage water quality in the distribution system by maintaining effective trending of tanks. Ability and knowledge to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve, a wide variety of water quality inquiries. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the job duties successfully. A high school diploma or GED is required. Licensure: Plant Operator - Ohio EPA Class I Water Treatment / Plant Operator's License is required within 24 months of hire.
