What is a procurement assistant and how to become one

4 min read

A procurement assistant generally provides administrative support to personnel in the procurement department of a company. He/she initiates purchase requests and keeps track of the stages involved until receipt and payment. They also monitor inventory levels and restock on supplies to ensure the company has a constant supply of materials and equipment.

Procurement assistants work under the supervision of a procurement manager. They also work closely with staff in other departments, such as finance and marketing, in order to fulfil their procurement needs. A successful procurement assistant should have knowledge and experience in procurement practices, organizational skills, communication skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail.

Procurement assistants work 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday between 9 and 5. Their work schedule is pretty regular, although they may be needed to work extra hours in instances where they need to deliver urgent reports.
