Product design engineer job description

Plan, coordinate, and perform product design development and post-development and analysis work by utilizing product design practices and principles. Provide leadership and technical direction within a product development team. Provide technical product support to internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:


Analyze assignments and determines engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for problems or projects Produce and /or evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, delivery and performance on specialized knowledge of engineering applications together with possible involvement of other functional engineers and /or customer/supplier personnel Apply life cycle management of existing products, including cost reduction, maintenance and enhancement of the product lines Prepare and present technical reports Apply knowledge of company products, policies and practices to provide economies through standardization of parts and products Liaison between the North American affiliates and Japanese headquarters Authorities for an employee are granted by means of work instructions, policies and procedures and/or direction provided by management to meet the requirements of the customer


Education:


BSME or BS in Engineering or equivalent technical experience


Experience:


0 to 2 years minimum Experience in negotiating styling and design requirements Experience with product development processes and disciplines Experience estimating and creating Cost/Mass targets for component parts Technical experience relating to design/diagnostics of mechanical system preferably in an automotive industry but not limited


Skills:


Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) Catia/NX and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) systems Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Ability to plan, set priorities and achieve results Ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment Ability to work effectively with persons from other cultures Proven communication skills both verbal and written

Expected travel 10~50% based on projects phase

This job operates in an office and manufacturing environment, and routinely uses standard office equipment. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.


Physical Demands:

We are looking for a Product Designer to help create a unified end-to-end experience to improve the usability of tools in Platform Engineering. Platform Engineering's purpose is to enable Netflix to scale effectively and empower our technical talent to focus on building innovative experiences for our members, partners, and creators around the world. As a Product Designer, you'll be responsible for designing user experiences for internal engineering tools and workflows leveraged by technical persona across Netflix.

In this role, you will Drive collaboration with other partner design teams, product managers, and engineers to design and build a unified experience across our engineering tools.Craft elegant and intuitive experiences that scale across our engineering teams while contributing to our design system and UX guidelines.Create and sustain scalable practices and frameworks for the design team itself.

What we're looking for Proven expertise in the user-centered design process, mainly product and interaction design skills.Ability to use systems thinking in technical spaces to break down complexity into solvable problems.Experience designing for scale by using design systems & components in your design process.Ability to think deeply about the ins and outs and edge cases.Be the voice for customer-centric design while balancing both Netflix and partner business goals.Experience leading design strategy and execution from 0 to 1 with minimal oversight and well-organized operational rigor.Prioritization mindset that balances progress with focussing and finishing Communication skills to drive alignment with your cross-functional stakeholders and external partners, influence decision-making, and articulate the rationale behind your concepts.Flexibility to context switch between complex and technical problem spaces.A mature and ego-free attitude that welcomes candid feedback.

The Product Design Engineer is responsible for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of product design projects within area of assigned responsibility. The role will require application of sound engineering practices in a cost effective manner in order to enhance customer satisfaction and deliver innovative products to market. Must be able to work with customers to define and document requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status. Apply project management skills when leading new product introductions and product enhancements while working closely with Product Managers.
