Develop, document, and implement a standard Bill of Process (BOP) and design best practices for our stamped sheet metal components. Provide direct ("at the elbow") technical support to Design Release Engineers (DREs) throughout the product development lifecycle, from virtual design phases through production launch. Develop and deliver training materials to enhance the engineering team's knowledge and skills with respect to stamping design and process optimization. Ensure the creation of comprehensive and robust part and process specifications to be included in Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages for stamped components. Collaborate with Procurement and Supplier Development teams to thoroughly review supplier responses to RFQs and assess their technical capabilities for manufacturing stamped components. Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction opportunities related to Material Utilization (MU) across existing product lines and new product development programs. Participate in tooling try-outs at supplier facilities and lead the optimization of blank and coil dimensions from initial trials through to serial production. Act as a key technical liaison with in-house manufacturing teams to ensure smooth and efficient production of stamped sheet metal components, addressing any technical challenges that may arise. Lead or support investigations into supplier stamping issues and implement corrective actions. Contribute to the selection and validation of sheet metal materials for specific applications, considering cost, performance, and manufacturability. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to sheet metal forming and design.
