The Blue Buffalo Applications team has an opening for a Research and Development Scientist for Innovation, Technology and Quality. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to impact this fast-growing business by leveraging your knowledge and skills to support Holistic Margin Management (HMM) projects across our main meal and treats businesses. You will participate in ideations, product formulation, process development and commercialization activities to enable the business to win in the marketplace.

The right candidate for this role will leverage technical skills and knowledge, excel at collaborating fully in a cross functional team environment, have a passion for pets, a drive to learn and comfort with ambiguity. You will have the opportunity to develop technical depth and build project management, business acumen and communication skills to influence across the organization.

This role is located in Minneapolis, MN and will provide relocation assistance for the selected candidate to relocate to Minneapolis. This role cannot support international relocation or international sponsorship to work in the US in an ongoing basis.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to develop or enhance HMM strategies and profit driving activities Lead the development of great tasting, wholesome and nutritious petfood products that deliver on consumer expectations and concept functionality Lead multiple initiatives from creation through commercialization by prioritizing work Independently design, consult, and manage the appropriate testing required to meet business needs, enhance foundational knowledge and/or deliver bottom line cost savings Manage and lead technically complex projects: create technical plans, timelines, risk assessments, and mitigation plans; identify opportunities by challenging formulation and processing assumptions Operate under the guidance of Sr HMM Scientist to support pipeline health activities Lead HMM Ideations and ensure progress on follow ups for respective area(s) Execute changes across main meal/treats portfolios to drive total value for the business



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Food Science, Animal Science or related field Willingness to travel up to ~20% Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills Ability to be agile and adapt to multiple situations with a learning mindset Results-oriented with strong bias for action and high regard for quality of work Interpersonal ability to build relationships at all levels with the organization


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1+ years of experience in product development or an applied science 1+ years petfood product development experience Demonstrated ability to manage and lead multiple technically-driven projects from concept to commercialization.

The Opportunity

As the company continues to grow we are seeking a Product Support Scientist II, III (Multiple Openings). The Product Support Scientist will be responsible for working both independently and as a team member to lead projects that improve product performance, increase operational efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction. They will also be responsible to define and develop test designs, analyze data and document findings in technical reports. This position may also be responsible for leading raw material validations including the determination of the risk on the process and finished product and authorizing the validation plan and report.
This position is in Rochester, NY.

The Responsibilities

Leadership of multiple projects concurrently.Effectively communicates and presents project status to senior management and cross-functional teams.Indirectly assists with achieving organization goals, including those established for scrap, MUV and productivity.Partner with cross functional teams as the technical subject matter expert supporting projects related to process and product improvement, supplier material changes and obsolescence.Provides technical support for product Lifecycle Management activities

The Individual

Minimum BS degree in scientific field (Chemistry or Engineering field preferred). Master's degree in scientific field preferred.Required Travel:>10% domestic and or international.

Requirements for Level II:
3-5 years of relatable experience.Familiarity with VITROS MicroSlide/MicroTip products and with VITROS analyzers is highly desired.Demonstrated experience leading projects to completion.Process Excellence tools or equivalent methodologies.Experience in writing technical documents and proficiency with MiniTab (or equivalent) statistical software is preferred.Requires the ability to work in a manufacturing environment and flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.

Requirements for Level III:
5-7 years of relatable experience.Familiarity with VITROS MicroSlide/MicroTip products and with VITROS analyzers is highly desired.Demonstrated experience leading projects to completion.Process Excellence tools or equivalent methodologies.Experience in writing technical documents and proficiency with MiniTab (or equivalent) statistical software is preferred.Requires the ability to work in a manufacturing environment and flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.

• Bachelor's Degree in food science, Chemistry or closely related fields. Masters preferred
• Minimum 2+ years of proven Product Development, Food Scientist, and R&D experience with a track record of successful product launches in the Food & Beverage industry, with a focus on juice or beverages
• Ability to work cross-functionally with collaboration experience including Procurement, Operations and Marketing, among others
• Demonstrate awareness and practice of safety procedures, GMPs, food regulations, and the implications for product development
• Technical leadership of projects commercialization, scale up and launch
• General knowledge of food & beverage processing equipment
• Understanding of project management principles
• Availability to travel based on project requirements (approximately 10%)

Preferred:

• Experience in product development and processing of fruit or vegetable-based products such as juices and/or spreads and snacks
• Strong cross-functional team leadership experience
