The Team
Upstart's Machine Learning, Personal Loan Underwriting team is focused on leveraging machine learning to power Upstart's underwriting models. This team builds the underwriting model which determines credit decisioning at Upstart and plays a central role in overall performance with numerous challenging problems to solve.
As a Machine Learning Engineer, PL UW at Upstart, you will collaborate with Research Scientists, Data Scientists, and other engineering departments. Your work will impact the team in a number of ways:
Increase ML productivity through better software and infrastructure; improve how we research, train, deploy, serve and monitor our models.
Reduce the time from idea to production and enable testing of new ideas to fulfill our mission of enabling access to credit more effectively.
Design and implement code and algorithms to improve our model's predictive power.
How you'll make an impact
Build repeatable workflows and automation that allow scientists to focus on high-leverage tasks (methodology, writing, analysis) and reduce time spent on maintenance.
Discover and develop a short and long-term roadmap of engineering improvements for the PL UW team.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Job Purpose
Analyze new model design and layout to countermeasure concerns/problems prior to mass production by interfacing with functional experts and other department representatives to summarize and present results to Research and Development for implementation of permanent countermeasures. Effectively interacts with Manufacturing Departments, Support Departments, Suppliers and Research & Development to obtain consensus when determining root cause and suggesting countermeasures to gain a clear resolution to problems. Key Accountabilities
Support Plant-wide problem analysis and prevention activities.
Resolve complex issues impacting both the product and customers.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills

Product engineer job in Delaware, OH
The Associate ProductEngineer - Energy Storage will act as the subject matter expert and design owner for large battery backup products deployed with Vertiv uninterruptible power supplies. This position works closely and continuously with others from research & development, field service, technical writing, sales, and manufacturing engineering to maximize customers' satisfaction with Vertiv's products and implement ongoing design changes.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Delaware, OH office location.
Responsibilities:
* Design owner for large commercial battery backup systems using lithium-ion or other battery chemistries.
* Invent, prototype, test and implement design changes to prevent recurrence of a problem, pursue cost-out opportunities, or add value to a product.
* Create or revise technical documentation for a product.
* Assist with troubleshooting by investigating emergent problems at customer sites or in local factory. Regional travel to a customer site (typically a datacenter) is typically required every 2-3 months.
* Occasionally travel to customer site on short notice to provide support.
* Occasionally interact with customers directly, either in support of quoting/sales or in response to problems.
* Occasionally provide remote support to the service team after normal working hours or on weekends.
* Occasionally operate test equipment up to 700V and 1.6MW in support of the activities above.
* Occasionally design, build, and modify simple test equipment.
* Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
* 0-3 years of experience in an Electrical Engineer role.
* Must have good planning, organizing, documentation and communication skills.
* Must be team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
* Additional / Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:
* Datacenter operations
* Commercial or industrial power infrastructure
* Uninterruptible power supplies
* Firmware development
* Sensor & microprocessor integration
* Remote condition monitoring
* Li-ion battery management
* Knowledge of NEC or NFPA 855 is desirable but not required.
* Experience using 2-dimensional CAD is desirable but not required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
* Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 40lbs to a height of 48 inches.
