Purpose and Scope
The Project Engineer II serves as a key resource in developing and managing the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities for small to medium site capital projects (CAPEX) involving facility and utility projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and formulate engineering projects and organize activities according to project requirements.
As part of project initiation/development prepare/review capital expenditure requests to develop project documents including scope, user requirements, functional specifications, etc. as needed.
Coordinate project phases; scope development/design and installation.

Coordinate pricing, estimating, scoping strategies for proposed projects and in the development and preparation of technical specifications.
Review and monitor project progress to assure quality and adherence to requirements of contract documents.
Coordinates approval of commissioning and qualification documents with QA as applicable to cGMP and established regulations.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
BS in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Construction Management preferred) from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Five or more years' experience in an engineering position to include experience with project engineering, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry or manufacturing environment, and hands-on or technical training in the field of facilities engineering.
An understanding of pharmaceutical (cGMP's) or related manufacturing facilities and utilities, technologies, and documentation requirements preferred.

General Position Description
The Project Engineer works with the Project Team and our Field Management to construct a safe and quality project, while beating the estimate budgets, improving the total Operating Profit margin over the original bid, and building a strong customer relationship.
This position is responsible for subcontractor management, submittals, buyout, great client relations and cost estimation.
Responsibilities
Complies with safety procedures/policies and addresses and/or elevates non-compliance among all employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
Supports the Quality personnel and the project through the use of the Quality Management System.
Develops various construction means and methods with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager to optimize safety, cost, equipment utilization, schedule efficiency, and communication with the client.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with design engineers to establish production requirements.
Conceptualize new and novel approaches to solve manufacturing problems.
Design manufacturing tools and fixtures in SolidWorks.
Analyze recurring manufacturing discrepancies and implement solutions.
Collaborate with design engineers on implementation of manufacturing feedback.
Conduct PDRs and CDRs for sub-systems for which you are responsible.

About the RoleAs a Manufacturing Engineer in the Solar Power group, you will be part of a team responsible for the build and integration of solar array systems that power spacecraft for customers in all sectors of the space economy. Sierra Space has developed and patented novel pick-and-place surface mount solar cell technology which will revolutionize the way space rated solar power systems are built. You will be a part of the team that will scale the process to enable world-class high-volume production and test of both small and large solar power systems, including multi-panel deployable arrays. This role will work heavily alongside the design, test, program management and quality teams to ensure that all schedule and quality objectives are consistently met for our customers, and that we are advancing the state of the art for Solar Array build efficiency.
Key responsibilities include reviewing engineering designs for producibility, developing tooling, fixtures, and facilities, and establishing overall build plans to support efficient manufacturing processes. This role involves executing new product introduction (NPI) builds across all work centers, performing process development, validation, and transitioning to production within aggressive timelines. You will assist with the initial concepting, setup, and programming of Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) lines, including facility requests and equipment setup, while also programming, operating, and training technicians on automated equipment during the initial standup phase. Collaboration with the tooling team will be essential to design custom fixtures for PCBA, ensuring efficient process flow and seamless integration with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines. Additional responsibilities include triaging non-conforming products, driving resolution and preventative actions, resolving production issues while maintaining design integrity, product quality, and delivery timelines, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in yield, rate, and cost. The base pay range for this position is $110,700- $184,600. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on October 31, 2025.
