Job Description Greensea IQ is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Research and Development of EverClean, Greensea's innovative ship maintenance robot product. This role will work directly with the EverClean Product Manager, field service technicians, and Greensea's production engineers to design, evolve, and constantly advance the EverClean robot system. This job is equal parts problem-solving and creative invention. EverClean is a new concept in ship maintenance and while it has been in production for a few years, Greensea strives to always be at the forefront of innovation while we advance the use of robotics to create a new paradigm of fuel efficiency and carbon reduction in maritime transportation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a Mechanical Engineer working with robotics, complex machines, and mechatronics. This candidate will have experience working within a small team composed of software developers, UX designers, electrical engineers, and subject matter experts. They will have experience with many different types of materials and be familiar with designing systems for rigorous environmental requirements. The Mechanical Engineer Research and Development will be responsible for the early-stage product design. They will focus on the next generation of product design to advance the existing product revision, solve current problems, improve efficiency, achieve new product strategies, and incorporate new features and technologies. Once prototyped, the Mechanical Engineer Research and Development will hand these early-stage product designs off to the production engineering team for final production readiness. This role is expected to have total ownership over the physical robotic system of EverClean. Responsibilities Work closely with the Product Manager of EverClean to understand the strategic objectives of the product, both near-term and long-term, and develop a technical work plan to achieve those goals from the perspective of the physical elements of the EverClean product. Work closely with the operations staff to understand what is working, what isn't working, and what could be improved within the EverClean robotic system. Design product advancements to achieve the product goals of EverClean. Produce prototype systems to thoroughly test product advancements. Support production engineers in the transition and sustainment of new designs to full production systems. Work closely with software and electrical engineers to develop a robotic system that is optimal, efficient, and robust while meeting all product requirements. Collaborate with field service technicians and other engineers in field testing and evaluation, often traveling to ports and harbors to deploy and operate EverClean robots. All other responsibilities as reasonably assigned. Job Summary/Objective: The Product Engineer is a multidisciplinary engineer managing and executing the development, advancement and improvement of Chroma's products. The person in this role provides technical leadership, collaborating extensively with other engineering disciplines, the Engineering Manager and the CTO. Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Collaborates with all pieces of Chroma's business including Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Business Development to develop new products and improve existing products; tasks include product design, researching new applications, assessing product feasibility, and determining most cost-effective solutions for manufacturing Coordinate with Process Engineers on process development and introduction for custom products Serves as Design Liaison between Engineering and Sales for preliminary review of all Sales requests within the Product Specification Tool and assigns design responsibilities as warranted Interacts with customers to provide technical assistance, to discuss products, and/or learn about new applications Manages product development projects to ensure product success, meeting customer needs and optical filter performance and specifications Assist Marketing in the development of white papers, articles, or conference proceedings to promote Chroma's products and demonstrate our technical expertise Effectively communicate across the organization in a clear and professional manner Support coworkers by helping when it is appropriate Follow through on tasks, responsibilities, and projects Be organized when helping to solve problems, supporting project teams, or instituting goals Be adaptable to ever changing challenges Collaborate with colleagues to find most appropriate solutions Take leadership roles to advance projects or the resolution of problems Required Education, Experience, and Eligibility Qualifications: B.S. in optics, applied physics, materials science or similar technical discipline 3+ years in product development Expertise in scientific method and designing controlled experiments and statistical and quantitative analysis Knowledge of intellectual property/patentable utilities Excellent problem visualization and solution skills Self-directed and detail oriented with ability to organize and manage multiple priorities Ability to lead and work effectively with all individuals/groups within the organization Excellent technical writing and communication skills Able to travel as needed for customer visits and technical meetings Preferred Education, Experience, and Eligibility Qualifications: 5+ years of experience with optics or optical system design and manufacturing; experience with coatings and thin-film design.
