Product management internship job description

Our Product Strategy and Analytics Internship will provide a hands-on experience in a challenging, interesting, and rewarding environment. Qualified interns will experience different functions of our Product Management department, including working on product strategy, product development, and competitive intelligence.

As an intern, you will be provided the opportunity to directly impact GEICO's business metrics by working alongside product managers to develop and execute growth and profitability strategies for our insurance business. You will be responsible for looking creatively at business problems and working on long-term projects throughout the summer. Towards the end of your internship, you will present your findings and recommendations to senior management and officers.

During this paid 10-week summer internship, you will:

* Research creative ways to assess risk
* Understand and more accurately predict customer behavior and the likelihood of a claim
* Work on strategic and analytical projects that will impact GEICO's growth and profitability results
* Query large datasets via SQL/SAS and organize and analyze metrics and key performance indicators in Excel
* Develop and present projects to senior management
* Learn how GEICO collaborates with state insurance departments and regulators
* Meet regularly with Product Managers and Senior Leaders in one-on-one Mentor meetings

Qualifications and Skills

* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following fields of study: Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related major
* Candidates must be rising seniors by the start of internship with the expected graduation date of December 2023 or May 2024
* Cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 or higher
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and creative thinking abilities
* Demonstrated analytical, mathematical, and data management skills
* Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and some additional programming skills
* Ability to live and work in the Washington DC area this summer. Interns who meet geographical requirement may qualify for housing stipend.

Job Purpose
This IT Product Lifecycle Management Intern will assist the I.T. development teams with identification and documentation of requirements, light development as well as managing testing and implementation. The Intern will gather requirements for system enhancements as well as problem tickets. This Intern will document existing and new processes and procedures for the I.T. development teams. This Intern will work closely with the IT development teams, customers and other colleagues in the IT department to analyze operational data sources, determine data availability, document, maintain and administer IT applications. From a day to day operations and project perspective, the work of the intern will be directed by a team manager.

Essential Duties
Assist business and project managers in developing detailed plans to accomplish approved projects on schedule.Meet with users to plan and develop detailed requirements.Develop detailed design specifications to achieve requirements.Execute unit tests and system testing in order to produce defect-free software.Coordinate, assist and document user testing.Upon user acceptance, submit a turnover package to Operations for production use.Acquire and improve skills in new technologies through education and professional organizations.Promote teamwork and volunteer to serve on ad hoc task groups from time to time.Assist business and IS managers in developing detailed plans to accomplish approved projects.Create reports per customer requirements.Provide support for production systems.Tests, monitors, manage and validate data warehouse activity.Manages, schedules and documents data warehouse operations and tasks including extraction, movement, loading, security, backup, and aggregate table creation. Report status to manager, as requested, and react immediately to any potential delays.Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Education/Certifications
Working towards a degree in computer related field or equivalent experience is required.Minimum GPA of 3.0

What you need to know about the DTC Summer 2023 Program Application Process:



Our Summer 2023 internship program is 11 weeks long, commencing June 5th - August 18th. Our internships are paid opportunities. Credit is not required; however, we will provide documentation if necessary. The application deadline is November 31st . After this date, we cannot guarantee your application will be reviewed for the position. We do not require a cover letter. Please demonstrate your passion for the position through your resume.

Responsibilities



About the projects you may work on:


As an intern you'll work on the same products and features as the wider PM team (detailed above). We want interns to deeply understand the functions of product management and product design at the end of their internship by giving them an end to end view of the function by providing them hands-on experience learning. PM interns will participate in all aspects of product discovery, delivery, and assessing outcomes. We will coach PM interns on participating and conducting user research, understanding customer behavior through quantitative and qualitative analysis, evaluating opportunities using a series of inputs, frameworks for prioritization, and how to partner effectively with design and engineering to create solutions with a customer first mindset. PM interns will learn best practices of GTM planning, as well measuring and assessing outcomes.


Qualifications


In addition to academic qualifications, we're looking for interns who are always curious and have a desire to learn. You'll need to have great attention to detail, but with a great sense of agility and scope.

We look for product management interns who are meticulous and take pride in their work.

Balance is important to us; we work hard, but think it's also important to have a good sense of humor and have fun while doing great work!

* Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required)

* Must be a rising Junior, Senior or Grad Student (18 years or older)

* Must be in academic good standing with a 2.8 GPA, Preferred 3.0 GPA

* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
