The Department of Media, Art and Design at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is conducting a search for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Graphic Design. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, 9-month tenured or tenure-track position. Specifically, we are seeking applications from candidates who possess an understanding of the practical, historical, and professional aspects of graphic design.
Candidates should have a record of working within and across a combination of graphic design mediums, including, but not limited to, visual identity development, digital illustration, character design, storyboarding and user mapping, UI/UX and interaction design, motion design and animation, and packaging design. The candidate will participate in developing new curricula for graphic design studio courses, lead experiential learning opportunities such as client-based initiatives through the Student Design Lab and work to connect students to community design partners. We are seeking students that are passionate about pushing the threshold of design and can work in the Kansas City office. This is a full-time position from January 2026-April 2026, with the option to continue into the summer months if agreed upon by both parties. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Collaborate and contribute within a team of graphic designers and marketers.
Research and develop new graphic design ideas, as needed.
Researching technological interfacing and its intersection while designing environments.
Assist in developing wayfinding plans in environmental spaces.
Creating new collateral materials and templates based on global brand guide.
All other duties and responsibilities as required.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
Experience working with brand and style guides.
Requires strong layout/editorial and typographic skills that will work in both print and digital applications.
Strong analytical, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as appropriate and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Self-starter, curious, and willing to learn.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate unmatched skills in graphic design; the ability to multi-task and a passion for quality, creative work.
Portfolio images that demonstrate strong conceptual/design skills, trend-focused color palettes, excellent aesthetic judgment, and use of type.
Portfolio images that demonstrate strong illustration skills with a variety of techniques, styles, subject matter, application.
Portfolio images that demonstrate ability to apply design and illustration to multiple formats and products.
EDUCATION:
Current college student in graphic design, marketing or another related field.
