Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno, Department of Art, Art History & Design invites applications for a full-time, tenured or tenure track faculty position for an Associate Professor, Director of Graphic Design to begin the fall semester of 2026. We seek an individual with strong experience in Graphic Design in areas of web design, UI/UX, 3D modeling, and animation. The ideal candidate will have an excellent background in teaching, have supervisory experience and a track record leading on design pedagogy. Experience in the latest theory and practice in the field is highly desirable, as is participation in organizations or conferences such as AIGA The Professional Association for Design. The individual will work closely with existing faculty to teach Graphic Design courses that support and connect interdisciplinary approaches, and the varied curriculum taught in the department, while bringing industry experience to the classroom.
Tenure-track faculty members in the department will maintain an active research agenda and have a 2-3 teaching load, with 40% of the time spent will be dedicated to teaching, 40% dedicated to research & creative activities, and 20% to service. The position will oversee equipment maintenance and purchases, the ordering of supplies, and work closely with Graphic Design faculty and adjunct lecturers to ensure clarity and consistency regarding preparation of course materials, timetabling, organizing portfolio review for the Graphic Design BFA, and facilitating access to labs and resources for students. Advising is a component of this role, for current, prospective and transfer students. The Director will work with Graphic Design BFA students on their individual studies and internship courses and help interface with local companies to maintain internship opportunities and to grow our roster of contacts for student employment.
The Department of Art, Art History and Design has approximately 300 majors across undergraduate and graduate programs of which nearly a third are in Graphic Design.
Required Qualifications
A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) with at least one degree in Graphic Design
At least 8 years of teaching experience at the college level beyond graduate teaching assistantships
A substantial portfolio of work made in the Graphic Design field
Ability to teach Graphic Design courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Provides direct services program coordination to students, parents and staff for issues related to visual impairment and assistive technology for all grade levels from preschool through secondary. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, the Visual Impairment Specialist shall be primarily responsible for the following functions:
Develops, implements, provides and evaluates educational training and programs for student programs, and parents and staff regarding Special Education programs and compliance.
Supports the continued improvement of special education program through training and piloting various programs.
Collects, analyzes, and reports on data for select state and district reports.
Provides assistive technology assessments, planning, and counseling for students and families of students for whom school sites require additional assistance due to specialized needs.
Perform such other duties and associated responsibilities as the Director of Special Services may assign.
Keep informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in all areas of education, particularly research-based co teaching and inclusionary practices.
Conduct research, analyze findings, develop sound conclusions, and prepare district reports for use in district-wide improvement plans with effective training and professional development in Special Education.
Consistently communicate and collaborate with the school site principals and special education staff regarding support programs for select first year special education teachers and continuing special education staff.
Provides training and modeling in research-based Special Educational Practices and compliance.
Provides brailing services for students which will allow the student to participate in general education curriculum.
Facilitates the District Assistive Technology Team and maintains the inventory of the District Lending Library.
Develops and maintains student files as required, according to Board policy and appropriate laws.
Serves as a liaison between families and outside agencies as appropriate.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Preflight and prepare customer-supplied artwork for large-format printing, ensuring correct sizing, resolution, bleeds, color profiles, and file setup.
Review and correct artwork errors, including missing fonts, low-resolution imagery, color inconsistencies, and formatting issues.
Create print-ready layouts for a wide range of trade show assets: booth graphics, signs, structures, panels, hanging banners, SEG, vinyl, fabric, etc.
Design & Prepare 2D Graphics for large-format printing when needed.
Work closely with project managers and production teams to confirm specs, templates, hardware requirements, and deadlines.
Perform color management tasks, including converting files to appropriate profiles and checking color accuracy.
Package and archive print files following internal naming conventions and organizational standards.
Communicate with clients or internal teams when artwork clarification or additional assets are needed.
Maintain quality standards by catching potential production problems early and offering solutions.
Set up die lines, cut paths, and finish marks for CNC, router, or laser-cut components when needed.
Occasional graphic production such as cutting vinyl, applying prints, and laminating as needed. Some experience is required.
Qualifications:
2-4+ years of prepress, preflight, or large-format production experience (trade show or signage industry strongly preferred).
2-4+ years of graphic design experience (agency or in-house) is a plus.
Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
Strong understanding of color management, CMYK/PMS, raster vs. vector, and large-format print requirements.
Familiarity with RIP software (VersaWorks, Onyx, Fiery, etc.) a plus.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, templates, and hardware specifications.
Extremely detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
