The ProductionAssistant role will provide general labor that is necessary to support the cement manufacturing process. This role is a utility role that combines duties assigned to the former Production Utility, Kiln Assistant and Equipment Attendance classifications. The ProductionAssistant does not perform the duties assigned to the Control Room Operator and M&E repair classifications. This role is expected to uphold all safety, environmental and workplace standards. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Performs all tasks in a safe and professional manner in conformance with company policies and quality standards.
Inspects mobile equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation and operates mobile equipment as needed.
Uses basic hand tools such as shovels, brooms, squeegees, scrapers, etc as well as operate mechanic's hand tools.
Performs general utility work including pushing up piles of rock and coal with front end loader and other equipment, unplugging belts, and general labor work as directed.
Provides operational oversight for all plant equipment from the rock storage building through the finish mill operations.
Provides process operations support including changes, sets up and adjusts equipment as required by current operating procedures.
Cleans the pre-heater tower riser and associated ductwork during the shift.
Troubleshoots process problems associated with field operations and equipment and may adjust equipment as directed or as dictated by circumstance.
Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
Responds to all incoming communications via phone, radio, and other verbal inputs. Keep logs and daily reports current and accurate.
Keeps the Lab informed of changes affecting product quality.
Keeps abreast of all changes that are made in the control systems while keeping the control room involved and informed of changes.
Must maintain a full understanding of proper operations of all plant equipment and optimize the performance of it on an ongoing basis.
Responds to all alarms and assures that they are taken care of appropriately.
Fills out daily checklist for operations of all plant equipment and for environmental compliance on all operating equipment.
Responsible for assisting in controlling and reducing emissions from the process.
Attends and participates in department and team meetings and training classes and may be utilized to train other employees.
Keeps the work area clean and orderly.
Must remain on the job until properly relieved; must have a proper shift change in that the incoming ProductionAssistant is informed of existing situations and changes that are occurring or expected.
Responds to reasonable emergency call outs on an as needed basis.
Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.
Ability, Skills & Knowledge
Ability to perform mathematical functions for determining silo volumes, material flow rates, etc.
Computer literacy.
Good mechanical aptitude.
Ability to remain alert and responsive.
Proficient in the English language.
Ability to physically work both indoor and outdoor in various weather conditions with or without accommodations.
Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends) to support a 24/7 operation.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members and external departments.
Must have a high level of integrity and commitment to comply with all applicable federal / state / industry compliance, record keeping, regulations and standards.
Due to the nature of this position, it is essential that the teammate be available to report to the designated work site / office and be ready to begin work when scheduled,

Prep Cook/ Chocolate ProductionAssistant - Sleep Walk
We're looking for a full-time prep cook to assist and help execute our food program at our Sleep Walk location, preparing breakfast items for delivery to our Chicago cafes. This position includes chocolate production, such as processing cacao (tempering, molding, and storing chocolate), and responsibilities for the food and chocolate program include inventory management, order fulfillment, communication with our retail and chocolate teams, and effective time management and self-motivation are essential
Ideal candidates will have at least a year of kitchen or kitchen/pastry experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage their time effectively while working independently. Physical requirements include the ability to climb stairs or ladders, lift up to 60 pounds, and stand for 8-hour shifts. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are a plus.

Food Prep
Preparing ingredients for food service, including but not limited to washing, peeling, and chopping. Preparing sauces, doughs, and other recipes to Adios Amigos standards
Cook and/or assemble quick service food to order and prepare/restock items for grab-n-go case.
Properly store food to maintain its quality and freshness. Organize storage areas and the kitchen. Label and stock all ingredients.
Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and removing trash.
Delivery of product to DMC retail locations in Chicago
Chocolate Production
Strong interest in Chocolate production and willingness to learn on the job.
Participate in chocolate operations from raw to finished product, including filling/emptying refiners, tempering and molding products, and packaging.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work floor, including product and supply inventory, maintaining pars, and fulfilling outgoing orders.
Comply with quality control standards and procedures, including weekly tastings and data entry in Google Sheets.
Communication and Administrative
Take inventory of supplies and ingredients, placing orders with vendors as needed.
Effectively implement directives from the supervisor, communicate, and coordinate with coworkers to ensure task completion.
Monitor and engage with incoming communication to both individual DMC email and Sleep Walk BOH email.
Health & Safety
Familiarity with safe and sanitary food handling and preparation, certification in food handling, and/or ServSafe certification.
Follow safety guidelines, including periodic reviews of safety procedures
Adhere to strict FIFO procedures for products, ensuring proper storage conditions
Participate in regular cleaning and sanitization procedures for machinery and production space, including scheduled deep cleaning
Qualifications

First shift hours are 6:00AM- 2:30PM.
Must be available to work flexible hours Monday through Sunday including overtime.

The DMC ProductionAssistant is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position within the production department. This role is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
ProductionAssistants are integral to daily operations and are expected to be cross-trained in all production stations. Flexibility is key; team members may be reassigned to various tasks or stations based on operational demands and direction from supervisors.
This position may also involve occasional support of other departments as business needs arise.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds.
Pay Structure:
This is a full-time, salaried non-exempt position with a starting annual salary of $33,696. As a non-exempt employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable Illinois and Chicago wage laws, this role is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40. Employees are eligible for subsidized benefits after their 90-day probationary period.

Communication
Use designated spreadsheets for ordering roasted coffee from the roasting floor.
Scheduled bi-weekly production meetings are mandatory for attendance
Maintain regular check-ins with the production manager
Conversations involving sensitive or personal material must be kept off the production floor and communicated directly to the supervisor or appropriate individual when necessary.
Basic Production Dept. Rules
Alcohol consumption is prohibited while working.
Food is prohibited on the production floor, roasting floor, green and roasted coffee storage, and lab. Eating is allowed only in designated areas on the premises.
Beverages must not be in proximity of roasted or green coffee
Wearing a hat or hair net is required while working the production floor
Time off requests must be made two weeks in advance. Not all requests will be fulfilled, and policy operates on a first-come, first serve basis.
Repeated failure to comply with job responsibilities will result in a disciplinary write-up, or termination.
