You Will:
Support Agronomists and Field Production Technicians in field related activities as directed at the Grundy County Iowa production area
Capture pesticide application information to meet Worker Protection Standard safety requirements
Participate in accurate and timely crop scouting and data collection of emergence and vegetative growth stages, silk and pollen shed notes, stand counts, and IPM scouting thresholds
Perform activities related to planting, mapping, scouting, weed and insect management, rouging, detasseling, safety, training, and reporting at the site
Perform a project to study a potential production improvement. Present findings to the local leadership team
Perform other duties as required to meet field operation or plant needs
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
A High School Diploma or equivalent
Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline (Agronomy, Ag Business or Ag Studies majors preferred)
Must be a current student continuing education upon completion of internship term (Graduation date on or AFTER December 2026)
Fluent in English
Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions including seasonally hot or cold temperatures and inclement weather
Preferred Requirements:
Prior experience relating to agronomy is preferred but not required
Prior experience relating to Seed Production is strongly preferred but not required
Excellent communication skills to work well with co-workers on plant tasks and in field production management with farmer growers
Independent, self-motivated and need little supervision
Excellent computer skills including proficiencies in both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Good writing and math skills
Trusted - Will need to make good sound judgment calls in regards to seed quality management that will be for the best interest of the company
Innovative - To always look to implement new procedures or technologies to improve work efficiencies
Detail/Accuracy Oriented - All procedures and policies must be understood and followed. Data entry into data management systems must be accurate due to decisions being made by other departments based on the information given

The Production Assistant role will provide general labor that is necessary to support the cement manufacturing process. This role is a utility role that combines duties assigned to the former Production Utility, Kiln Assistant and Equipment Attendance classifications. The Production Assistant does not perform the duties assigned to the Control Room Operator and M&E repair classifications. This role is expected to uphold all safety, environmental and workplace standards. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Performs all tasks in a safe and professional manner in conformance with company policies and quality standards.
Inspects mobile equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation and operates mobile equipment as needed.
Uses basic hand tools such as shovels, brooms, squeegees, scrapers, etc as well as operate mechanic's hand tools.
Performs general utility work including pushing up piles of rock and coal with front end loader and other equipment, unplugging belts, and general labor work as directed.
Provides operational oversight for all plant equipment from the rock storage building through the finish mill operations.
Provides process operations support including changes, sets up and adjusts equipment as required by current operating procedures.
Cleans the pre-heater tower riser and associated ductwork during the shift.
Troubleshoots process problems associated with field operations and equipment and may adjust equipment as directed or as dictated by circumstance.
Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
Responds to all incoming communications via phone, radio, and other verbal inputs. Keep logs and daily reports current and accurate.
Keeps the Lab informed of changes affecting product quality.
Keeps abreast of all changes that are made in the control systems while keeping the control room involved and informed of changes.
Must maintain a full understanding of proper operations of all plant equipment and optimize the performance of it on an ongoing basis.
Responds to all alarms and assures that they are taken care of appropriately.
Fills out daily checklist for operations of all plant equipment and for environmental compliance on all operating equipment.
Responsible for assisting in controlling and reducing emissions from the process.
Attends and participates in department and team meetings and training classes and may be utilized to train other employees.
Keeps the work area clean and orderly.
Must remain on the job until properly relieved; must have a proper shift change in that the incoming Production Assistant is informed of existing situations and changes that are occurring or expected.
Responds to reasonable emergency call outs on an as needed basis.
Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.

Plant Pathology Segment
Interns will learn how to identify the most common diseases found in corn and soybeans relating to seed production. They will also help determine economic thresholds and evaluate management options for the crop.
Entomology and IPM (Integrated Pest Management) Segment
Interns will learn to identify various life cycles of insects and their potential impacts on crop growth and development, grain yield and seed quality. They will learn the appropriate scouting and sampling techniques for the major insect pests affecting seed production. They will also participate in Beck's IPM program by monitoring and recording insect trap levels at various locations.
Plant Nutrition Segment
Interns will learn the basic mechanics of corn and soybean plant nutrition. They will participate in soil nitrate sampling and leaf tissue sampling for corn and soybeans, and they will learn to diagnose nutrient deficiencies based on tissue tests and visual symptoms.
Herbicide and Weed Control Segment
Interns will identify weeds and evaluate herbicide effectiveness. They will also help evaluate, monitor, and recommend weed management options.
Pollination Segment
Interns will participate in the detasseling process of seed corn production. They will take detailed notes of tassel counts, silk counts, pollen shed, and plant maturities during pollination.
Intern Project
Interns will be assigned a research project relating to seed production.
Job Requirements
Education and Training:
Must have completed sophomore year in college and be majoring in: Agronomy, Crop Science, Ag Systems Management, or Ag Economics
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record as determined by Beck's automobile insurance policy.
Technical Knowledge:
Extra Consideration will be given to individuals with a Production Agriculture background, working knowledge of agricultural equipment and a Class A Commercial Driver's License

The Production Assistant role will provide general labor that is necessary to support the cement manufacturing process. This role is a utility role that combines duties assigned to the former Production Utility, Kiln Assistant and Equipment Attendance classifications. The Production Assistant does not perform the duties assigned to the Control Room Operator and M&E repair classifications. This role is expected to uphold all safety, environmental and workplace standards. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Performs all tasks in a safe and professional manner in conformance with company policies and quality standards.
Inspects mobile equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation and operates mobile equipment as needed.
Uses basic hand tools such as shovels, brooms, squeegees, scrapers, etc as well as operate mechanic's hand tools.
Performs general utility work including pushing up piles of rock and coal with front end loader and other equipment, unplugging belts, and general labor work as directed.
Provides operational oversight for all plant equipment from the rock storage building through the finish mill operations.
Provides process operations support including changes, sets up and adjusts equipment as required by current operating procedures.
Cleans the pre-heater tower riser and associated ductwork during the shift.
Troubleshoots process problems associated with field operations and equipment and may adjust equipment as directed or as dictated by circumstance.
Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
Responds to all incoming communications via phone, radio, and other verbal inputs. Keep logs and daily reports current and accurate.
Keeps the Lab informed of changes affecting product quality.
Keeps abreast of all changes that are made in the control systems while keeping the control room involved and informed of changes.
Must maintain a full understanding of proper operations of all plant equipment and optimize the performance of it on an ongoing basis.
Responds to all alarms and assures that they are taken care of appropriately.
Fills out daily checklist for operations of all plant equipment and for environmental compliance on all operating equipment.
Responsible for assisting in controlling and reducing emissions from the process.
Attends and participates in department and team meetings and training classes and may be utilized to train other employees.
Keeps the work area clean and orderly.
Must remain on the job until properly relieved; must have a proper shift change in that the incoming Production Assistant is informed of existing situations and changes that are occurring or expected.

Job Description
You will:
Provide the intern the opportunity of being exposed to the Seed Parent Characterization activities, allowing him/her to apply academic background and assist in the department activities from trial design, preparation, maintenance, harvesting, lab tasks, and data analysis
Develop a good understanding about new corn hybrid development, and parent characterization activities, by taking a lead role for one of the Seed Parent Characterization's locations
Strengthen new product advancements through the assessment of important traits for seeds production
Take the lead on the project management and execution according to the assigned project. Assure that field activities (planting, plot maintenance, and harvest) for research plots are executed. This includes routine site/farm maintenance activities such as planting plots, applying treatments, collecting observations and in-season data, and maintaining the plots throughout the growing season.
Support other Seed Parent Characterization, as well as agronomic trial activities
Develop and maintain two-way communication with project managers, Seed Production Research (SPR) Scientists, Agronomists and Parent Seed colleagues. Additionally, look for communicating with people from different areas, from breeding all the way to commercial seeds production, aiming to gain a good understanding of the whole chain
Assist with managing and developing part time workers
Analyze data and prepare a report and presentation for the assigned project
Make sure all activities are developed according to the Company safety procedures and recommendations, and promote environmentally sustainable solutions

Qualifications
What you must have:
A High School diploma or equivalent
Enrollment in a Bachelor's Degree program in Agronomy, Biology, Ag Business, or another closely related field of study with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
Must be a current student continuing education upon completion of internship term
A valid Driver's License

Prefer a student with a Sophomore or Junior standing
May be required to lift up to 30 pounds
Communication-The ability to communicate information well (both written and spoken) is highly desired
Detail Oriented-All procedures and policies must be understood and followed
Autonomous-An independent individual who is self-motivating and needs little supervision
Confidence- Not afraid to ask bold questions and be curious
Eagerness to learn and grow in the role
Previous internship and/or co-op experience related to Agriculture is preferred but not required
Familiarity with working on a farm, working with crops, or working outdoors is preferred but not required
