Carnegie Mellon University's department of Facilities Management and Campus Services is searching for a Production Center Assistant to join their Tartan Ink team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to Tartan Ink, the university's copy and print center, by providing support by assisting in the services provided by a satellite copy center and our production center, including distributing work to others, assisting customers, performing copying and binding services and handling and maintaining related paperwork.
Core responsibilities include:
* Ability to properly operate a wide variety of copying and bindery equipment; able to interact and communicate well with the campus customers
* Receives, reviews and personally processes requests for copier job requests/orders. Plans daily work assignments based on current workload, customer requirements, machine capabilities, etc. Delivery and pick up of work on campus as needed. Contacts and engages outside service providers as needed.
* Reviews requests with customers; makes suggestions regarding paper, binding, options, etc.; checks finished work to make certain that customer requirements are being met.
* Troubleshoots problems and questions, such as delivery dates or times, billing charges, partial orders, etc.; answers most questions or corrects most problems directly. Refers only the most difficult issues to supervisor.
* Works with the Convenience Copier Technician to perform monthly meter reads on copiers across campus and enters the data into the Maximo Program.
* Answers service calls on copiers across campus, including clearing jams, adding toner and staples, etc.
* Other duties as assigned

RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow a layout to produce top-quality signs via several fabrication methods including a flatbed printer, applying printed or cut vinyl, flatbed cutter/router, and more
Accurately prepare substrates for sign production. This may include cutting, painting, laminating, cleaning, and maintaining the substrates for vinyl
Perform quality assurance measures pre- and post-construction by accurately reading and interpreting a Work Order and then proofing for errors or unacceptable standards (bubbles, ragged edges, loose seams).
Perform routine machine maintenance and minor repairs when necessary.
Perform finishing operations such as laminating, encapsulating, and/or mounting printed graphics
Install vinyl graphics or finished signs at customer locations on a variety of surfaces and using a variety of tools
Communicate with other employees and customers in a calm and professional manner; express yourself verbally and listen well.
Keep the production area neat, organized, and clean

Tagger: Taggers are responsible for accurately affixing price tags to products in accordance with company standards and entering prices into the pricing machine. Working side-by-side with the Pricer, the tagger is expected to learn how to price items for the Sales Floor.
Pricer Support: Pricer Support personnel work closely with Pricers and are required to learn pricing tasks to provide coverage during the Pricer's absence.
Tallyer & Sensor Support: Tallyers are primarily responsible for meticulously counting items intended for the sales floor in adherence to company standards. Beyond counting, Tallyers also attach sensors to products that require them, paying attention to sensor placement and understanding different fabric types. Their attention to detail and accuracy ensures our inventory is precisely tracked and our products are properly prepared for the sales floor.
Runner: Runners promptly deliver priced merchandise to its designated location on the sales floor while maintaining organization and color order. They monitor the condition of the sales floor, addressing any safety concerns, and informing management if any area becomes overfilled, making it difficult for customers to shop. While maintaining the sales floor, they should be prepared to assist customers as needed.
