As a Production Operator at PPG's Monroeville Research & Development, you will be a crucial part of our Specialty Synthesis Group (SSG) operations responsible for process development and manufacturing of photochromic dyes, OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) materials and optical coatings, ensuring that a quality product is available to our customers when they need them. Your work will directly affect people's lives!
Location- Monroeville, PA
Rotating Shift: Work Schedule: 1st shift, Mon-Fri. (6:00 am - 2:00 pm) and 2nd shift, Mon-Thur. (2:00 pm - 12:00 am) Shift differential for 2nd shift. Shift Rotates every week.
Pay Rate: $47,150 annually, non-exempt + OT. Depending on skill(s) and experience higher rate of pay may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-step organic reactions in a plant environment (50 L to 400 L scale).
Running reactions/purifications according to batch sheet.
Modify batch sheets and other procedures as needed.
Collaborate effectively with variety of people with minimal supervision.
The position involves blending, measuring, and producing raw materials to manufacture industrial coatings.
You will work in a production environment with a high level of safety awareness and adhere to all appropriate safety procedures in place.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Production and scale experience in a similar plant or laboratory environment.
Chemical and manufacturing experience preferred.
Exposure to some inorganic and organic college chemistry lab experience preferred.
Mechanical aptitude and high level of safety awareness.
Attention to detail and documentation skills and excellent organizational and communication skills.
Strong problem solving, initiative, and knowledge of PC applications.
Interpersonal skills, interact with all levels of organization, and able to work in a team environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis throughout the day.

The Brackenridge Melt shop has a multi-step manufacturing process to cast metal into slabs or ingots that are used in a variety of industries. Our facility has two 110 ton Electric Arc Furnaces and a 120 ton Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) vessel. The raw materials used in the melting process are coarse stainless steel scrap, turnings and slag formers. After initial melting the metal is transferred to the AOD vessel where it is subjected to three steps of refining: decarburization, reduction, and desulphurization. The AOD operation also involves refining, stirring and tapping the heat in a teeming ladle.

Position Summary: The General Production Laborer is responsible for production duties as assigned while following appropriate processes and safety regulations.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
Be able to lift 25 lbs.
Operate machinery used in the production process.
Keep work area clean and organized by practicing good housekeeping in the immediate work area.
Assist fellow employees on an as needed basis.
Ability to properly package product in boxes and on pallets.
Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances
All other duties as assigned.
