In any production unit across almost every industry there is, proper production control is the key to achieving production targets, quality management, optimum utilization of resources, and other goals of the production team. To keep all cogs in the machine turning, there are production control coordinators that serve as overseers, communicators, and expeditors all in one.

Production control coordinators typically work in offices and often visit the production area to accomplish daily monitoring tasks. Their main responsibilities are collecting and analyzing records on production, creating and distributing efficient production schedules to different departments, and reporting to managers and other higher-ups. Additional tasks may include handling shipment, training employees, and monitoring stockroom inventory.

A high school diploma is enough to qualify for the role of a production control coordinator. Instead of education, what employers mostly look for is relevant job experience, as well as skills in organizing, time management, and most importantly--communication.

As of January 2021, the average salary of a production control coordinator is $61,178--great compensation for a standard 40-hour workweek in relatively comfortable working conditions.

My advice to recent graduates is to be forward thinking. This is also the time for entrepreneurial perspectives. Do not discount critical thinking. With the current world climate there are problems that need to be addressed and design and art professionals are vital visual communicators in these circumstances. Students and recent grads should rely upon their knowledge of basic design elements and principles when connecting with the public.
