Walman Optical production inspector job description

We currently have an immediate opening for an experienced Product Inspector in our fast-paced Brooklyn Park Optical Lab. This is an excellent opportunity to join our team!
Hours: Weekend Shift, Saturday 12PM-12AM, Sunday 12PM-8PM, Monday 12PM-10PM, Tuesday 12PM-10PM.

This position is responsible for production/ finished product inspection and quality control for all surfaced and /or cut & edged ophthalmic lenses and finished eyewear product.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Use a Lensometer and interpret results and findings.

+ Interpret customers' prescription requirements and have total understanding of the production work ticket as produced via lab software/operating system.

+ Troubleshoot all facets of production problems to bring about acceptable production quality and service levels.

+ Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications

+ High School diploma, GED or equivalent and work experience commensurate with position requirements

+ Three years of optical lab production experience

+ E xcellent skills in reading of a Lensometer and interpreting results and findings

+ Knowledge of ANSI standards applicable to eyewear required

+ Ability to multi-task

+ Must be highly detail-oriented

+ Demonstrated mechanical aptitude helpful

+ Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision

Impact:

The Production Inspector will provide product inspection support to multiple facets of the manufacturing operation including but not limited to: Training on inspection and equipment, verification of calibrated equipment, In-Process Inspections at the machine, Customer Required Over-Inspections, First article inspection support as needed.

Part inspections will entail use of CMM, Optical Measurement System (Smartscope), Calipers, Micrometer, Ring and pin gages, Digital height stands, indicators, concentricity gages, as well as other common inspection equipment.

Essential Duties:

* Perform in-process inspections on manufacturing products along side the operators using various precision measuring equipment.
* Operate the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
* Assists in First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR), when feasible and necessary.
* Ensures manufactured parts conform with all customer requirements through the completion of detailed inspection plans/reports.
* Identifies and segregates all non-conforming parts found during product inspection through the completion of non-conforming material reports, and provide feedback to operators during operation.
* Assists with customer required "over-inspection", to minimize machine/ operator down time.
* Use safe practices and comply with all company policies, procedures and health, safety and environmental regulations, as required.
* Follow all safety requirements pertaining to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
* Maintains work space before, during, and after each scheduled shift in accordance with 5S principles.
* Complete all paperwork correctly and legibly. Perform all tasks with minimal supervision.
* Contribute to team effort by performing other supporting tasks as directed by the direct supervisor.

Required Qualifications

* High School degree, GED or equivalent.
* 3+ years' experience in manufacturing, in a Quality capacity is a preferred.
* Excellent attention to detail Experience with precision measuring equipment (calipers, CMM, height stand, etc.)
* Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally.

Physical Demands include:

* Vision - Ability to view/see parts for visual inspection and measuring.
* Reading and Writing - Expressing or receiving detailed information by nonverbal means.
* Bend/Stoop/Kneel/Crouch - Requires use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
* Standing/Walking - Particularly for sustained periods of time.
* Finger/Grasp/Handle/Feel - Working primarily with fingers.
* Talk/Hear - Expressing or receiving detailed information by means of spoken word.
* Repetitive Motions - Substantial movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers.
* Working in above ambient temperatures.

**Job Description**

You are responsible for the registration of the manufacturing cards, the conformity of the final product, and putting in stock (including its documentation).

Reports To

The Production inspector will report to the Senior Operations Manager.

Main activities

• Guarantee the application of the Quality rules in the respect of the satisfaction of the customers, the deadlines of production.

o Ensure compliance with the rules and instructions by the application of the Quality Management System

o Make sure that the product quality requirements are met

• Check the conformity of the parts by carrying out various controls (administrative, dimensional, visual and aspect) from quality, technical instructions and / or using measuring instruments.

o Checking the conformity of the physical marking and production traceability documents

• Validating the production operations, control and closing the final control operations

• Ensure the consistency of the configuration produced with the purchasing order from the customer.

• Process anomaly notices and declare non-conformances in real time, validate the rework of equipment

• Write delivery documents and declarations of conformity

• Participate to the process of eradicating of the non-quality and to the continuous progress in its activity

Responsibilities and Duties

• Collaborative working relationship with Senior Operations Manager and production quality members

• Working in partnership with production, MRB and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

• Work cross functionally with other SAFRAN sites in your field of expertise through various forums

**Job Requirements**
