Production mechanic job description

Seneca Tank is an international supplier of new and used petroleum tank trucks, transports, and truck tank parts, with more than 40 years of experience. We also operate an ASME certified repair and DOT service facility supported by a million-dollar parts inventory. Our company prides itself on its family environment and focus on safety.

Under the direction of the Production Manager-New Builds, the incumbent is responsible for building fluid delivery systems for lube vans, liquid bulk tank trucks and trailers, which includes both fabricating and assembling components used in the building process. The incumbent is also responsible for repairing fluid delivery systems.
Essential Job Functions:
Install fluid delivery systems on lube vans, petroleum tank trucks and trailers (40%) Fabricate components of fluid delivery systems such as meter shelf plates, support brackets, and piping, which involves cutting, bending, welding, and attaching metal and aluminum materials(30%) Read job orders to determine work to be performed per customer request (10%) Assemble ready-made and fabricated components to build fluid delivery systems (10%) Repair fluid delivery systems by replacing malfunctioning parts (10%)


Competencies:
Working knowledge of the proper use, maintenance, and repair of tools used on the job, including hand, electric, pneumatic, gas-welding/cutting tools Skill to properly operate all tools used in the performance of essential job functions, such as hand/power tools and metal brakes/band saws, with accuracy. Skill to repair machines or systems using the needed tools Skill to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job Familiarity with safety standards common to motor vehicle repair work environments Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, policies, and regulations such as those found in work orders, work process protocols, and safety manuals Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with a tank/chassis unit or component, or a tool utilized in performing work Trouble shooting skill to determine the cause of operating errors and decide what to do about them Ability to read, write, speak and understand English Analytical thinking Attention to detail Time management skills Working knowledge of arithmetic and its application Able to work well with others


Physical Demands Include:
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and over 100 lbs. often

PRODUCTION MECHANIC

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Repairs, modifies, and upgrades rail cars. Rebuilds car components: bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors Welds, fabricates, and uses torch and carbon arc to cut. Performs mechanical labor.

Repairs and maintains railcars, according to blueprints and other specifications, production machinery, and other equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments: Inspects machines and equipment visually, by touch, special knowledge, and training to locate causes of trouble Measures, cuts, and threads pipes, and replaces airlines using hand tools. Assembles sub-assemblies, major components, and equipment, and checks function to test for proper operation. Repairs broken parts using hand tools and welding equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal education, high school or equivalent
Knowledge: mechanical skills
Skills: welding and cutting preferred
Must pass company established welding test.
Mental factors: Decision making and reasoning, planning and scheduling

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standing, hearing, and seeing for 10 hours, handling for 6 hours, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fingering for 5 hours reaching below waist, twisting, and feeling for 2 hours, sitting, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching over head, and talking for 1 hour. Frequently: standing, kneeling, stretching, reaching, gripping tools or objects and bending at the waist. Regularly: walking, crouching, and twisting while standing. Occasionally: sitting, crawling, and twisting while sitting for 1 hour or less.

Lifting: car parts from 1-50lbs for 10 hours (10-25lbs frequently, 25-50lbs regularly)

Pushing: hand trucks weighing up to 100 lbs to move tools frequently, wrenches weighing up to 10 lbs to tighten bolts

Pulling: 10-25 lbs frequently, 25-50lbs regularly, over 50 lbs occasionally, and cables up to 100lbs to pull lines regularly

Requires indoor work 8 hours per day, and outdoor work 2 hours per day. Exposure to heat and humidity, working at heights regularly, working around moving machinery

Exposure to welding and burning fumes, odors, dust, gases, and uncomfortable noises from welding and burning, working in hot temperatures regularly, working in cold temperatures occasionally, driving automotive equipment, working with oil and grease, working with vibrations, and working alone occasionally. Hazard exposure: mechanical from tools, electrical from welders, radiant energy from torches.

WORKING SCHEDULE:
10 hour shifts; Monday through Thursday with occasional overtime on Fridays.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to line supervisor or work group supervisor.

PAY RATE:
The pay rate for the Production Mechanic position begins at $19.35/hour, and can be increased up to $28.50/hour.

SIGNING BONUS:
$500.00 on first paycheck.
