The Opportunity
As part of the production team, reporting to the Production Manager, you'll play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly. You'll work independently to deliver high-quality results on schedule, ensuring every product meets our safety, quality, and customer standards.
Your Impact
Ensure outputs meet production schedules, safety and quality standards, as well as customer needs
Operate, and monitor equipment, detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine, controls, or control media within capabilities as required to ensure quality of production
Ensure proper use of required personal protective equipment at all times
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on all equipment and tools
Record, mark and report any defective products
Maintain a clean working area free from dirt and debris throughout and at end of day
Troubleshoot or resolve product or equipment problems and recommend measures to improve productivity, product quality, and safety
Communicate professionally with leadership team, production control, quality, and other team members as appropriate to resolve machining, product or quality issues
Remove parts or completed products from conveyors and pack goods onto pallets
Operate forklift in a safe and efficient manner as needed
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and standards
Your Experience, Skills & Education
High school diploma or GED is preferred.
Experience working in agriculture manufacturing or similar industries preferred.
Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time
Ability to operate required equipment (eg. mixing machine, conveyor, fork lift) in a safe and responsible manner
Ability to respond positively and quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate specialty machinery to fabricate, manufacture, assemble, or move products.
Maintain and monitor machine to make sure it functions properly.
Perform basic set up and breakdown of each machine
Demonstrate basic safety measures and precautions
Verifying dimensions and product specifications
Complete documentation and work in a timely manner
Maintains good housekeeping and clean work areas in assigned space
Act, live, and behave by TCF Core Values
Additional duties may be assigned, dependent upon location and product line
QUALIFICATIONS
Typically requires a high school diploma and up to 2 years of experience
Read and understand shop orders and blueprints, safety rules, standard work instructions written in English.
Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to read a tape measure.
Ability to use hand tools in a safe and proper manner.
Based on department, may be required to operate a forklift, overhead crane, and electric pallet jack.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND REQUIRED TRAINING
The following certifications and training, if required, will be provided by the company:
JSA completion, Forklift Operations, PPE identification and usage, Crane Training, hazard awareness/identification, Lift table operations, Rigging safety
Understands SQDE Metrics, LDMS, Issue boards, 5S
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
To successfully perform the essential function of this position, employees must have the ability to:
Continuously lift/move 10 pounds; frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Continuously stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms above shoulder height; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk; and hear.
Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms at waist level and below the waist, and work in limited space.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is continuously exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high places, fumes, or airborne particles and/or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Machine Operator will be responsible for performing various tasks to set up, operate, monitor, troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on assigned machines. The Machine Operator will also be responsible for inspecting parts to specifications and making adjustments, or tool changes as necessary to maintain quality specifications.
Key Deliverables
* Set up and operate a production machine in accordance with Astec's guidelines.
* Control and adjust machine settings to complete tasks accurately.
* Perform pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment startup and operation.
* Accurately perform task based on blueprints provided.
* Maintain a detailed activity log of daily duties.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
* Knowledgeable in basic machine safety to include proper lifting techniques.
* Basic blueprint reading and math skills (basic geometry to figure angles) and decimals and metric conversions.
* Knowledgeable and able to use tape measure, combination square, levels and radius boards, etc.
* Able to safely use hand tools to include hammer, adjustable wrench, air grinder, pencil grinder, and air wrenches.
* Closely monitor machine while in operation, never leaving immediate work area while machine is in operation and be ready to respond to breakdowns quickly in order to shut down machine.
* Be able to read cut lists (basic reading skills and knowledge of materials - types of steel Able to safely operate cranes and forklifts.
* Be able to do some layout work.
* Review operator manual(s) for saw, drill, and mill for safe and appropriate operation (to include preventive maintenance).
* Communicate with other machine operators and team members to guarantee safety on the floor.
* Keep work area neat and clean.
* Must follow all Astec, Inc. safety rules and requirements.
* Must follow all company policy requirements.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
* High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
* Relevant trade school or college course work desired.
* Blueprint reading skills desired.
* 0-2 Heavy equipment manufacturing experience desired.
* Computer experience desired, particularly the ability to use a mouse, and locate and open/close files.
* Ability to follow verbal instruction and learn how to operate machine, training will be provided.
* Must have good written and oral communication skills.
* Must have good troubleshooting skills, be able to maintain quality, and diagnose cutting problems.
