The Silgan Containers Management Trainee position and the Silgan Containers Production Management Development Program (PMDP) will train highly motivated & qualified individuals to assume Plant Supervisor or higher management positions within the organization. The position requires solid technical & mechanical aptitudes. The position will also require strong communication and leadership skills.

The Silgan Containers PMDP is designed for Management Trainees who are self-motivated individuals that work well with little to no supervision. The position is designed to assimilate both entry-level through mid-level Management Trainees into the Silgan Manufacturing environment over time.

While the position will not have any immediate subordinates, this candidate will be required to learn, understand, and positively impact 5 Key Plant Control Factors; Safety, Quality, Standard Operating Requirements, Employee Relations and Operational Excellence Tools. This candidate may be required to relocate.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Essential Job Functions:
Safety
* Learn and train personnel.
* Learn and apply written safety procedures.
* Observe work areas for safety improvements.
* Review and learn investigative processes.
Quality
* Learn and apply SPC principles & Basic Quality Tools (diagrams, flow/run/control charts, analysis, etc.)
Standard Operating Procedures
* Learn and train procedures
* Learn and maximize production throughput.
* Learn and manage equipment.
* Learn factory organization.
* Enforce SOP's.
* Learn & review standard reporting.
Employee Relations
* Develop & mentor employees.
* Direct & assign work.
* Administer Labor contract in union plants.
Operational Excellence (OpEx)
* Learn and administer established standards.
* Personal inspection of work force, material usage & production.
* Analyze reports.
Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education, Skills, and Experience:
* College Degree (or relevant work/training experience)
* Level (2) to mid-level (5 plus) years' experience
* Leadership skills
* Great communication including both written and oral
* Technical and performance management skills
* Statistical and computer knowledge
* Problem solving and visual mechanic skills (blue prints and descriptions)
* Candidates with a strong mechanical, and manufacturing background preferred
* Candidates with supervisor/managerial experience preferred

Caterpillar's Resource Industries Operations and Products division is currently seeking Production and Logistics Section Managers for its Decatur, IL facility. As a Section Manager you will supervise and provide leadership to assigned machining, fabrication, or logistics areas while adhering to Caterpillar's core values of integrity, excellence, teamwork, commitment, and sustainability. You will own the value stream metrics for your respective section and partner with support groups in the implementation of changes needed. You will drive continuous improvement efforts as well as practice and teach CPS Lean principles.

Our Section Managers play a key role in our success by leading the production teams and maximizing efficiency in quality, velocity, and cost.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:


* Monitor and improve shop floor safety, aggressively eliminating unsafe processes

* Assure fixtures, tooling and processes are followed to meet production schedules

* Schedule and prioritize constrained resources, and adjust staffing to meet flow and customer requirements

* Manage team performance and development

* Increase production efficiency through continuous improvement and waste elimination via LEAN principles

* Ensure preventive maintenance is performed according to schedule

* Initiate and conduct process improvement dialogs with Team Leads and Team Members

* Lead section status reporting and monitor / audit section metrics

* Leas the creation, implementation, and training of standard work procedures


Basic Qualifications:


* 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality, supply chain, logistics -OR- 2+ years of experience successfully leading teams in any industry


Top candidates will also have:


* College degree (associates or higher)

* 1+ years of experience in a team lead or supervisory role in manufacturing, quality, supply chain, logistics

* Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills

* Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers; able to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside your department.

• Go through training to understand yarn manufacturing process
• Manage and lead a team of approximately 25-40 production employees to meet daily production, quality, and safety goals
• Utilize attained knowledge and experience to analyze & troubleshoot equipment and machinery
• Possess or attain a thorough understanding and working knowledge of our manufacturing process and related equipment, machinery, and systems, including the proper setup and control settings of the equipment
• Thoroughly communicate important information to all employees to ensure the smooth flow of materials/products and to make sure employees possess the information needed to successfully perform their job duties
• Maintain conformance with policies, rules, and procedures on his / her shift
• Take appropriate coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) with nonconforming associates
• Attain a high-level working knowledge of all QC Systems and material/product testing equipment
• Manage time & attendance on a daily basis for all direct report employees
• Must be flexible and willing and able to work all shifts, including weekends

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma and/or GED

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• 3+ years of experience as a shift lead or lead technician
• Manufacturing experience
• Production Shift Supervisor experience
• Work-related experience in leading and ensuring compliance with safety initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to raise performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates
• Desire to advance in leadership positions without mobility restrictions
• Background in Production Management, Manufacturing Management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Must be physically equipped to maintain an upright, walking position for a twelve (12) hour shifts.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must keep work area and machines clean. Wear required personal protective equipment at all times and adhered to all safety rules and procedures.

WORK SCHEDULE:

• 12 hour shifts (7am-7pm & 7pm-7am)
