Successful candidates will carry out work as a member of the newly formed Allen Discovery Center for Neurobiology in Changing Environments (ADC-NiCE). This pioneering, transdisciplinary center investigates the impacts of climate change on the neurobiology of marine organisms and how their nervous systems are affected by climate change-related stressors. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their expertise to help unravel the complexities of marine neurobiology.
The Lyons Lab is recruiting a detail-oriented Aquatic Transgenic Production Technician to support high-volume developmental biology and marine genomics workflows. The role involves hands-on care of marine invertebrates, embryo production, and microinjection pipelines that generate transgenic lines for studies on evolution, development, and environmental effects on neural systems.
What You'll Do
Aquatic Systems and Invertebrate Husbandry
• Oversee daily operations of specialized Iwaki recirculating seawater systems
• Maintain tanks, filtration units, plumbing, and life-support hardware
• Feed and care for adult marine invertebrates
• Monitor water chemistry and adjust pH, salinity, and nitrogen cycle parameters
• Perform minor equipment repairs or construct simple system components
Embryo Production and Microinjection
• Collect embryos daily from breeding colonies
• Perform high-volume embryo microinjections with precision
• Rear embryos through metamorphosis and maintain stable genetic lines
• Track development from embryos to juveniles and adults
Molecular Reagent Preparation
• Grow and purify bacterial cultures for plasmid production
• Prepare plasmids, CRISPR components, and transposases
• Complete routine molecular biology tasks, including buffer prep and PCR sample prep
Lab Organization and Operations
• Maintain detailed logs of animal lines, system maintenance, and breeding records
• Manage ordering, shipping, and supply organization
• Support lab upkeep, safety compliance, and waste management
What You Bring
Required
• Experience with aquatic systems and water chemistry
• Experience caring for adult aquatic organisms
• Experience performing embryo microinjection in any species
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work regularly with seawater
• Basic molecular biology skills
• Strong observation, documentation, and organizational skills
• Professional communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred
• Bachelor's degree in a biological science or equivalent experience
• Familiarity with sequence-viewing or basic bioinformatics tools
• Experience with IHC, HCR, or confocal microscopy
Work Environment
This role involves hands-on work with seawater systems, daily care of live marine organisms, and periods of standing, sitting, and moderate lifting. Because embryo production and animal care follow biological timelines, some work may occur outside regular hours, including evenings or weekends. Flexible scheduling is offered.
Success in this role also depends on strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. You'll work closely with other lab members to coordinate animal care, share system responsibilities, and support high-volume husbandry and embryo workflows. The ideal candidate communicates clearly, collaborates well, stays flexible when priorities shift, and is comfortable receiving and applying constructive feedback.

Position Scope:
Working within a high-production industrial environment, the Production Operator is responsible for meeting departmental production, quality, and safety standards. Upon training the Production Operator will be responsible for independently reading and verifying the shop order, setting up and completing the manufacturing process, which may include: printing equipment, automated equipment, small hand tools, viewing product through a microscope, and fine assembly work.

Scope:
Drill operators independently set up and operate multiple NC (numerically controlled) machines simultaneously to drill holes, slots, counter-bore, etc. in panels per customer requirements.
1st shift hours are 6:00AM - 2:30 PM, Mon - Fri, with overtime as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform standard and complex machine set-ups including downloading of drill programs
Verify the travelers, prints and CAM programs.
Selection and set-up of correct bits
Alignment of panels to the machine.
Perform registration analysis using x-ray machine
Make corresponding scale corrections.
Visually inspect panels for hole-size and missing holes utilizing drill check film.
Preventative maintenance on machines
Troubleshooting machines
Prioritize work dependent on operational time and delivery schedules.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent mathematical skills.
Strong computer skills and mechanical aptitude
Use measuring tools such as pin-gauges and calipers
Read and understand blueprints
Outstanding attention to detail
Ability to produce high quality product under pressure
Ability to stand on feet for 8 hours, lift up to 30-50 lbs. and work in noisy environment
Able to read and interpret travelers and oral and written work instructions in English.
Ability to understand and follow all safety requirements.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred
Must have or be capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
Preferred Experience:
Previous printed circuit board manufacturing experience preferred. General manufacturing experience helpful.

Scope:
Responsible for accurate solder mask placement, and correct screening of solder mask. Should have good attention to detail for visual inspection of artwork before screening to ensure quality, compliance to specifications and a constant flow of work through the line. Prepare machine(s) and chemistries prior to processing work. Perform any/all preventative maintenance on line as required prior to processing work. Process work per JTI's and quality standards. Perform necessary inspection checks on machine and product. Perform first article inspection on any/all work and document accordingly. Move product to other process as needed. Duties and Responsibilities:
* Operate wet process equipment for PCB panel processing through functions which include manual copper plating, solder plating, silver immersion, gold immersion, electroless copper, electrolytic gold, outer layer etching, organic coating, and hot air level processing.
* Set and maintain chemical processing equipment within operational parameters
* Cautiously load racks in plating tanks while ensuring proper temperature/current of baths
* Read blueprints and traveler documents to produce and move products according to customer specifications and to verify that all previous operations were completed
* Follow work flow dispatch as required while making allowances for schedule changes in response to Hot Jobs and customer requirements
* Immediately report any and all quality issues with panels and chemical baths to supervisor and/or Process Engineers
* Assist Process Engineers in running chemical process evaluations
* Perform preventative maintenance on all chemical machines
* Use all required Personal Protective Equipment
* Complete all internal departmental documentation accurately
* Follow all safety measures when handling chemicals and hazardous waste with regard to use, mixing and disposing chemicals
