What You'll Be Doing: Must be proficient in the safe and efficient operation of assigned fork truck. This will be required to perform the following duties: Unloading 53' (or like) Van Trailers consisting of baled and containerized material. Properly following all Sonoco Safety Rules and regulations. Able to properly weigh, grade, and stage unloaded material. This includes the operation of cameras / smart devices to track non-conforming material. Stack and place pallets in designated area (maybe staged trailer) Maintain, complete, and turn in all unloading manifests to assigned personnel. Load outbound trailers / export containers with designated material for shipment to consuming mill. Complete trailer / container inspections. Check to unsure all material loaded meets required specifications. Understand and implements required loading patterns to maximize weights while staying within legal limits. This requires an understanding of different bale types and loading patterns. Move and stage material within the plant. Catching and properly stacking bales in designated areas. Dumping of loose materials from Gaylord containers into appropriate bunkers. Other Miscellaneous duties: Inspect equipment daily for safe operation. Record findings. Perform Daily PM's in accordance to Sonoco's Maintenance Excellence standards. Willingly participates in Sonoco Recycling's 5S standard. Stacking of Pallets Using tire broom to clean the plants. Use of hand brooms / rakes / etc. to clean around docks or designated areas of the plant or trailers. Picking up debris from the yard or perimeter of the property. Be held accountable for assigned area of the plant. Assist in cleaning conveyor pits, behind baler rams, and around the baler area. Must be proficient in the safe and efficient operation of assigned Skid Steer Loader. This will be required to perform the following duties: Feeding of loose material onto infeed conveyor for baling. Unloading loose material from various sized Van trailers in a safe and efficient manner. Loading residue into open top containers for take away. Other Miscellaneous duties: Inspect equipment daily for safe operation. Record findings. Perform Daily PM's in accordance to Sonoco's Maintenance Excellence standards. Willingly participates in Sonoco Recycling's 5S standard. Monitor and adjust temperature, speed, backing gauge, coating weights and coverage, trim knife width, etc. Inspect finished products to ensure they meet specified quality standards and report defects. Assist in maintenance and general housekeeping of equipment and production areas. Follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic math skills. Knowledge of pumps and motors. Able to read formulas and weigh ingredients as necessary. What you will do The entry-level Production Laborer will be responsible for the operation of various mill production equipment, general housekeeping tasks, accurately reading tape measures and gauges and other test equipment, following directions, ensuring quality, and monitoring the process to produce quality products. This position is responsible for making equipment adjustments, cleaning the equipment/ facility, and performing other designated tasks in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP). Job functions include: * Maintain a safe work environment for yourself and other associates. * Assist crew members with housekeeping and general production tasks. * Operate Forklift and/or Bobcat to retrieve supplies and move product. * Monitor and make adjustments to the equipment, including visual checks jams and other malfunctions. * Maintain all documentation of daily and monthly rounds in accordance with the current SOP's. * Communicate with operators, prior and next shift, of pertinent quality and production concerns. What you will need * High School Diploma or GED equivalent * Commitment to safety and quality * Knowledge of basic manufacturing practices and strong problem-solving skills. * Basic mechanical ability to make adjustments to the equipment to maximize production and ensure quality standards are met or exceeded. * Crane or hoist experience * Able to effectively use hand tools like a pipe or valve wrench, and/or channel locks. * Ability to learn through self-directed study and desire for advancement. * The ability to work independently and in a team environment. * Maintain a cooperative working relationship, demonstrate a positive attitude and consideration towards fellow employees and supervision. * Prior experience in an industrial setting is preferred such as paper, steel, and petrochemical. * Prior experience with the following tasks is preferred: lockouts, confined spaces, valves, pumps, conveyors, forklifts, skid steers, maintenance, instrument readings, etc. * Schedules are up to 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off. However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. * 4 straight days of "day" shift (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) 7 days off * 4 straight days of "night" shift (6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) 3 days off * 3 straight days of "day" shift (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) 1 day off * 3 straight days of "night" shift (6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) 3 days off * Employees will be required to change shifts and work off days if necessary. * Ability to work overtime on a regular basis and with last-minute notification * Ability to work holidays and/or weekends on a regular basis * Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods. * Able to work in areas of fluctuating temperature including outside, in hot, humid, and at times, cold, damp environment. * Able to lift, up to 40 lbs frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs occasionally, and over 50 lbs minimally. When lifting 50 lbs and above, Operator will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance. * Able to read a computer screen or other electronic devices. * Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment. * Wear required personal protective equipment (hard hat, earplugs, steel-toed boots, safety glasses at a minimum) * Ability to operate or work in industrial conditions - may be warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, heavy machinery, or elevated working surfaces (with proper safety training and safety protection) * Frequent walking, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, and climbing. * Ability to move wrists, hands, and/or fingers to turn valves and make adjustments to equipment. * Ability to climb ladders and work in high places.
