Under the direction of the plant manager, shift supervisor and/or other designated lead personnel the machine operator operates the block machine and associated equipment to produce quality concrete products from raw materials, following established policies and procedures in a safe and efficient manner. Responsibilities Operate block machine and associated equipment efficiently to produce concrete products from raw materials to the yard stage, according to prescribed quality standards and production schedule. Visual inspect quality of products according to prescribed quality control standards such as weight, height, color, shape and corners. Adjust machinery and related processes as required to meet quality standards. Monitor the operation of the block plant and all associated equipment to detect, report and repair malfunctions. Maintain, adjust and perform minor repairs on the block machine and associated equipment. Maintain work area in a clean, orderly and hazard free condition. Change molds as required with the assistance of other production personnel. Perform other functions and duties as required or directed, such as starting up and shutting down the block machine; keeping written records of production; relieving other personnel for breaks; communicating changes in product size, tone (shade of gray), texture and or cubing patterns to the cuber and production list; making sure the mixer is cleaned as required; maintaining admix level; assisting with major equipment maintenance and repairs; assisting the shift supervisor with coordinating all production operations that are tied to the speed and output of the block machine; and assisting with training of employees. Qualifications Demonstrated ability to operate fork trucks Operate machine control panels with electronic switches Basic mechanical skills, i.e. hydraulics, auto and small engine repair Use, read and understand rulers and tape measures Read, write and speak English as required by safety standards and job expectations Basic math skills, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplying, dividing, averaging, etc. Interpersonal and teamwork skills Must be able to perform duties requiring bending, stooping, squatting and crawling.
