Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team at our customer's facility in Oshkosh, WI. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be a technician who will support senior technicians and engineers in testing vehicles and parts/components, performing configuration changes and repairs of vehicles and test stands, and following appropriate engineering procedures, standards, and specifications. This role may also provide support in the fabrication and assembly of vehicles and related systems/sub-systems. The objective is to validate new product designs as part of new product development as well as resolve issues on sustaining products. The Technician is expected to provide exemplary support technical support to the customers of Oshkosh Corporation and Test and Development.
Duties:
Conduct testing of prototypes and current products to determine capabilities of vehicles/systems and conformance to specifications and/or regulations in partnership with engineers and senior level technicians.
Test and record data using operational knowledge of vehicle systems (electrical pneumatic, hydraulic) using manual entry and data acquisition. Troubleshoot systems, perform basic failure analysis and follow detailed test procedures.
Assemble, disassemble, and fabricate complex/customized parts, mechanical structures and test stands/fixtures in partnership with engineers and senior level technicians.
Maintain a safe work environment, adhere to all safety procedures during all aspects of job performance which includes regular exposure to personal and physical hazards.
Operate heavy equipment/machinery or drive vehicles as required for the purposes of testing or material handling.
Determine appropriate test instruments for product testing.
Plan and schedule daily activities to complete assignments in their order of priority to make effective use of time and ensure projects are being completed within identified timeline.
Communicate effectively and work cross functionally to resolve technical problems including the ability to provide constructive feedback to all levels of the organization. Interpret and execute written/verbal directions and instructions.
Requirements:
Technical Diploma with three (3) years of experience in engineering or equivalent experience.
Heavy duty (diesel) or automotive technician background experience.

Key Responsibilities:

2+ years' experience with Solid Works CAD software required
Must have a high attention to detail and produce accurate work
Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
Ability to read drawings required, and understand tolerances
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities at one time
Education and/or Experience
Associate degree in Engineering or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required
1-3 Years SolidWorks experience
Estimating experience preferred

The Sustaining Test Engineer I is an entry-level sustaining engineering role supporting the ongoing lifecycle of both test systems and mechanical components used in electro-mechanical, software-controlled medical devices. Reporting into the Sustaining Engineering group, this position focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving test systems and products that are commercially released.
The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to ensure existing devices, fixtures, and test equipment remain reliable, compliant, and manufacturable throughout their lifecycle. Responsibilities include updating test methods, resolving mechanical issues, supporting production and field troubleshooting, and driving incremental improvements for quality, serviceability, and cost optimization. This role offers broad exposure to sustaining activities across both test systems and mechanical engineering, providing a strong foundation for growth in a regulated medical device environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Test Systems (~50%)
Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve existing test systems, fixtures, and equipment.
Perform updates to test hardware, software, and documentation to ensure ongoing reliability, compliance, and usability.
Support verification and validation (V&V) activities by executing and updating test protocols and reports for sustaining projects in compliance with company procedures.
Provide technical support for calibration, preventive maintenance, and transfer of updated test systems to operations.
Partner with the product development team when new test systems are handed off, ensuring smooth transition and long-term support.
Mechanical Engineering (~50%)
Support sustaining engineering activities for existing medical devices, components, and fixtures.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical system issues, proposing and implementing design modifications as needed.
Update and maintain CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation to reflect design changes.
Conduct lab testing, inspections, and troubleshooting of existing assemblies, fixtures, and prototypes.
Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to address product issues, improve manufacturability, and ensure continued compliance with regulatory standards.
Drive incremental improvements for cost reduction, reliability, serviceability, and quality of current products.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Minimum
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
0-2 years of engineering experience (internship or co-op experience acceptable).
Familiarity with automated test systems, sensors, or data acquisition.
Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Programming experience (such as Python, C++, etc.)
Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Effective communicator, both oral and written, with strong organizational and project management skills; with high attention to detail.
Self-starter with strong initiative and personal accountability.
Preferred:
Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB or other test automation tools.
Basic electrical lab equipment working knowledge such as DMM and oscilloscope
Prior experience in a regulated industry (medical device, aerospace, automotive, etc.).
Knowledge of FDA QSR, ISO 13485, or other relevant quality standards.
Understanding of design-for-manufacturing and tolerance analysis methods.
Compensation & Total Rewards:
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $79,000 - $87,000
