The Next General Products (NGP) organization is responsible for the design, analysis, integration, and support of future military engine products. The NGP - Engineer will own the design, development, & qualification of advanced military products, specifically hot structural components. The engineer will be responsible for executing technical design tasks including analysis & manufacturing support of assigned hardware in addition to program management of hardware cost, weight, & schedule deliverables. This position reports to an engineering manager in Evendale, OH with the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

* Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned components for advanced military products.
* Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, & product requirements.
* Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule & budget constraints.
* Demonstrate systems thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.
* Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge & judgment.
* Reviews designs & consults with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.
* This role will require sound interpersonal skills to develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering from an accredited university.
* Must have or have the ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.

Desired Characteristics

* Highly motivated, passionate, and exceptional communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze & solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, & program management skills.
* Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
* Experience with structural component design.

How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

Responsible for structural, interior and mechanical design of complex aircraft interior and structural modifications.

+ Perform research and surveys to determine the best methods to modify aircraft to accomplish project statements of work.

+ Design new mechanical parts, assemblies and installations defining aircraft modifications.

+ Perform analysis and substantiation of new parts and installations.

+ Produce engineering drawings, reports, material lists and work instructions to document & install aircraft modifications.

+ Provide engineering checks of data produced by peer groups or other project participants.

+ Provide technical support during manufacturing and installation of aircraft modifications.

+ Interface with customers, suppliers and other project stakeholders pertaining to modification projects.

+ Provide guidance and oversight to engineering peer group, and mentor new engineers to operate within departmental practices and procedures.

+ Provide statements of work, cost estimates, completion schedules and other project administrative inputs.

+ Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

+ B.S. in engineering or related scientific field.

+ Three (3) years overall work experience, two (2) of which in a design engineering role.

+ Must have strong computer skills and demonstrate proficiency with 2D/3D CAD systems and MS Office programs.

+ Must have strong knowledge of aircraft mechanical/structural design processes, materials, fabrication methods and aerospace hardware.

+ Must possess working knowledge of substantiation techniques and FAA regulatory requirements.

+ Must be able to effectively utilize aircraft continued airworthiness data.

+ Must be organized and an effective project manager, presenting good communication skills and a professional appearance.

+ Embraces diverse people, thinking and styles. Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 3-5 yrs aviation related experience; or Master's Degree in Engineering with 1-3 yrs aviation related experience; or Ph.D. in Engineering; or 5-9 yrs in a technical aviation related discipline with 2-3 in an aviation engineering organization

+ Knowledge of aircraft interiors, composites and entertainment systems.

+ Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

Hardware

+ 2+ years of hands-on experience designing mechanical components or systems for a production environment.

+ Proficiency in 2D drafting, 3D conceptual modeling (NX preferred), tolerance analysis, and design trade-offs.

+ Strong mechanical engineering analytical skills. Experience using FEA to drive design decisions is strongly preferred

+ Ability to collect and use data to inform decisions and fuel debate in an open and intellectually honest manner.

+ Clear and concise communication skills with ability to adapt written and verbal messaging for a variety of audiences.

**Description**

You will own the end-to-end design, development and validation of sensing technology into Apple's portfolio of products. You will work with a talented multifunctional team to generate design concepts, and as the mechanical expert you will be responsible for engineering analysis and documentation for your piece of the project. You will be expected to: Identify design tradeoffs and risks to choose viable paths forward. Apply good experiment design and the scientific method to reduce design risk early. Ensure a 'guarantee by design' approach with tolerance studies and simulation to ensure designs meet requirements over manufacturing, process, and reliability conditions. Drive issue resolution to meet Apple's high customer experience and industrial design standards. Experience with high volume mass production or consumer electronics are a plus. In the prototyping and validation phases, you will support external manufacturing vendors with process development and root cause analysis for issues found during testing. Support for our vendors includes international travel between 15% and 25%.
