The hourly rate for this position at Scotts/Hawthorne will generally fall between $19.00 - 21.00 per hour and is paid weekly. The User Experience Research (UXR) Intern will be responsible for tasks in support of optimizing and enhancing our consumer facing digital experiences through research insights and learnings. They will work closely with other members of the Digital Experience, IT, and Brand Teams. The individual in this role will have exposure to many different facets of our business. This UX Research internship offers you the opportunity to work with a small, highly collaborative team leveraging user research tools and techniques to optimize and evaluate innovative design and experience-based solutions. What you'll do in this role: Support user research activities using both generative and evaluative methodologies; Analyze and extrapolate actionable findings from qualitative and quantitative research; Conduct qualitative methodologies to uncover pain points, points of friction, or insights on owned, comparative and competitive digital experiences; Analyze and synthesize insights from on-site behavioral insight tools; Supplement UX research inputs with analytics data, market research, and other data sources; Ideate, strategize, and plan conversion rate optimization (CRO) initiatives; Share research insights with cross-functional partners to create a smarter, more informed, and more empathetic team; Articulate systems, processes, and user journeys in simple ways to help build alignment across teams; Create deliverables in the form of engaging reports or other materials as needed by the project team. The perfect person will have/be: Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proficient with Google Suite or related software; Ability to work both independently and as a team; What you'll need to be successful: Currently pursuing a degree in Human Factors, Psychology, Visual Communication Design, Marketing, Usability Engineering, Interaction Design, Digital Design, or similar; Graduation date must be on or before December 2027. The Aviation Research Lab is seeking a student to support evaluation and user-testing activities for a Virtual Reality (VR) drone training project. The student will assist faculty researchers with data collection, VR testing, documentation, and related research tasks. Career Readiness Competencies: * Communication * Critical Thinking * Professionalism * Technology * Assist with basic literature searches and summaries using provided guidance or templates. * Help with research lab setup, including preparing VR equipment and organizing testing materials. * Support VR testing and evaluation sessions, including guiding participants and observing user behavior. * Assist with data collection and organization, such as entering data, downloading files, and performing simple data cleaning. * Contribute to technical writing, including short summaries, procedural documentation, and report sections. * Attend regular check-in meetings with project investigators. * Perform additional project-related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigators. * Background in an education-related field, such as teacher education, educational psychology, curriculum & instruction, instructional design, or similar (major or minor required). * Basic experience with survey tools such as Qualtrics (e.g., building or editing simple surveys). * Introductory familiarity with research ethics or IRB procedures. * Foundational statistical and analytical skills, including simple comparisons (t-tests, pre/post) and use of Excel or SPSS. * Strong observational skills, including accurate note-taking and documentation of user behaviors or issues. * Clear communication skills for guiding participants during research sessions. * Comfort with learning basic technical procedures, such as setting up or resetting VR headsets. * Professionalism and reliability, especially when working with minors (high school participants). * Good academic standing at the university (GPA of 3.25 or higher). Desired Qualifications (Preferred but Not Required) * Experience and/or interest in technical writing or documentation. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Coursework or experience in basic data analysis. * Prior exposure to VR tools or environments at a user level.
