Concordia University Irvine professor of counseling job description
The faculty person is primarily responsible for teaching eight 7-week courses online. He/she will have 3 units of release time to perform designated administrative functions for developing the counseling program. Periodically, various programmatic activities related to the Townsend Institute and Concordia University may be assigned.
APPOINTMENT
- Faculty are appointed by the Provost in consultation with the University President, the Dean of the School of Professional Studies and the Executive Director of the Townsend Institute
STAFF RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to Executive Director (ED) and Director of the Counseling Program (DCP) of the Townsend Institute
- Dean of the School of Professional Studies (DSPP)
- Director of Curriculum and Assessment of the Townsend Program (DCA)

- Program Assistant (PA)
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The following are the minimum requirements for this position:
- A terminal degree in Counselor Education (EDD or PhD).
- Licensure in Mental Health Counseling or Licensed Professional Counselor with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience
- Understanding and experience in using the Townsend model in a clinical setting
- A faculty member in good standing for a minimum of 3 years or commensurate level of experience in a clinical or business/non-profit setting may be acceptable
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities involve but are not limited to:
- Teaching eight 7-week courses online which involves regular communication with students, grading assignments within a reasonable timeframe, collaborating with the academic counselor for students struggling academically, participating in the evaluation of the course, recommending curriculum improvements, and be a resource to students regarding issues with technology, curriculum or other student concerns. He/she will collaborate with the PAA when appropriate.
- Attend and assist in coordination of the bi-annual Kick-Off Conferences for the MA Counseling Program under the direction of the ED.
- Periodically attend graduation ceremonies in May and December and the Faculty Retreat in August.
- Assists with improving course content and online delivery of the counseling program with the ED, DCP and DCA.
- Is available to the DCP and DCA as they lead the CACREP Accreditation self-study and preparation for the site visit to ensure accreditation of the program before the first graduating class in May 2019.
- With the ED, DCP and DCA assist and ensure all program components are aligned to the Townsend Institute and University's mission, as well as appropriate WUSCUS (accrediting body for Western states) standards.
- Assists in evaluation of courses taught with the DCA and recommend curriculum improvements.

Use 3 units of release time for two of the following or other passions you have that will advance the mission and vision of the Townsend Institute and Concordia University:
- Collaborates with the ED and Graduate Admissions office in developing relationships with undergraduate psychology faculty at member institutions of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities to recruit their students to the counseling program.
- Coordinate retention services for students and monitor students' continuation in the program, especially during the registration periods, in collaboration with the PAA, DCP and ED
- Develop a strong relationship with graduates (i.e. counseling alumni) and coordinate communication and additional resources for their continued success and connection with the Townsend Institute. Collaborate and coordinate these activities with the Alumni office.
- Research that contributes to the development of the counseling program curriculum.
- Review all marketing materials to make sure it is up-to-date and relevant to potential students.
- Develop a "best practices" document for online faculty.
