Duties and Responsibilities:

The UMKC Institute for Human Development, University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (IHD) is an applied research and training center for human services designed to exemplify the University's goals of engaged scholarship and community partnerships. Its functions include interdisciplinary training, applied research, community program development and information dissemination. The CtLC Nexus, housed at UMKC Institute for Human Development, is designed to support the "intersect of Charting the LifeCourse ideas, collaboration and transformation." As the definition of "nexus" implies, it is the central place that connects or links groups, things, and ideas together. The CtLC Nexus provides an infrastructure for stakeholders to engage with a growing network of implementers on the Charting the LifeCourse framework to learn from one another, share stories, and participate in opportunities to build one another's capacity. In addition, the Nexus serves as a research center, partnering with people and organizations who are using CtLC as a lens to enhance and innovate existing resources, training, and practices, and/or to develop new promising practices, resources, trainings, or products. The Nexus then disseminates these innovations, through access to resources and materials, and providing training and technical assistance.
The IHD is seeking an experienced and resourceful leader to become a Sr. Program Area Specialist. This role is highly collaborative and is a key contributor to the successful development and expansion of the Charting the LifeCourse Nexus training, technical assistance and knowledge translation goals.
The LifeCourse Senior Program Area Specialists will:
* Assist in managing and coordinating a portfolio of training and technical assistance projects related to long term services and supports, specifically person-centered planning and support coordination. This includes monitoring project timelines and ensuring required deliverables are met.
* Provide training and technical assistance to organizations and professionals to integrate and implement LifeCourse framework and tools for support coordination/case management.
* Oversee and adapt functional plans and priorities, to meet short- and long-term services and organizational goals of the Nexus and IHD.
* Assist in the development and maintenance of LifeCourse training resources and tools for professionals and organizations to use to enhance support coordination/case management.
* Support the on-going membership and learning of a national network of professionals and organizations.
* Assist with the evaluation and research of LifeCourse projects, programs and evidence-based practices focusing on support coordination/case management.
* Work collaboratively with internal and external subject matter experts and identify target audience's technical and strategic needs to develop and implement desired outcomes .
* Develop and maintain strong synergistic relationships with external partners, IHD and Nexus team members.

Reporting Structure:

Behavioral Support Assistants will work within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in a self-contained, public day school classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing information to appropriate school personnel. The Behavioral Support Assistant will help with data collection and analysis.
This job reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
Administers a variety of activites (e.g. modify student work to help limit behavior issues while still accomplishing goals, etc.) for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
Assists with appropriate behavioral intervention techniques as directed by the supervising teacher for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment for the student and classroom.
Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. CPR, emergency procedures, crisis de-escalation etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress, programming and/or implementing IEP objectives.
Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavior plans designed by IEP team for students for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Maintains a variety of materials ( instructional materials, files, records, data, charts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and meeting mandated requirements.
Maintains and updates required certifications for the purpose of ensuring employability and up-to-date training.
Models positive behavior for students (e.g. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpse of providing educational and life skills training.
Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives, implementing IEP plans/behavior intervention plans and ensuring students success in school.
Records daily, weekly logs for behaviors, academics and prompts for the purpose of ensuring accurate information is kept on each student.
Remains with student at all times for the purpose of providing for the safety of students, removing student when necessary and de-escalating situations outside the classroom.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 60% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere.
