ROLE of the POSITION This position exists to provide operational leadership, management, and oversight for day-to-day operations for Campus Recreational Services' aquatics and facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to managing daily aquatics operations to ensure compliance with department, facility and university policy and procedures; supervise (1) aquatics graduate assistant, (20-30) lifeguards, (10-20) lifeguard instructors, (10-20) water safety instructors; directly hire, train, evaluate and supervise student staff; assess, develop and implement program and educational initiatives in the natatorium; provide first aid, CPR and first aid certification training; Lifeguard Training; Water Safety Instructor Training; Lifeguard Instructor Training; budget management; equipment inventory; strategic planning and assessment; administrative functions; observe and resolve risk management and safety issues and provide 24/7 emergency on-call response as necessary. On-call response within 30 minutes. Some evening and weekend work required. Program development -- participate in the development of comprehensive recreational services and provide guidance for the development of program initiatives for aquatics. Develop and implement, with Associate Director assistance, a comprehensive calendar of aquatics recreational programs and manage the process to assess student learning outcomes and the impact of the activities and agenda. The facility is open 16 - 18 hours a day during the week and averages 12 hours a day on the weekend. This position is responsible for ensuring the proper supervision exists for all activities and that the building is in the best condition (safe and clean) for all users and events. Provide student staff training, development, supervision, and evaluation. Conduct in-service training and lifesaving - lifeguarding meetings with staff, and provide professional leadership and oversight for staff, equipment, inventory, and policy/procedure protocols. Provide and coordinate staff management, payroll, certification record keeping, and facilitate/coordinate aquatics programming (including, but not limited to, swim lessons, aqua fitness, masters swim, learn to swim, youth programs, etc.). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and nine (9) months of undergraduate experience in collegiate recreation, athletics, or commercial/city recreation is required. CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor certification is required within 60 days of employment. Must be a current American Red Cross lifeguard certified. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
