The Admissions Representative uses marketing materials/opportunities provided by American Public University System (APUS) to serve assigned potential students as determined by management. This is a student facing professional position in higher education. It reports to either an Admissions Manager or Senior Admissions Manager, who report to a Director of Admissions or Director of Prospect Management, who report to the Vice President of Admissions. Responsibilities: * Consults and advises potential students to jointly discover goals, advise toward solutions around degree planning, payment, transfer credit, and other enrollment decisions, and implement an action plan to support students in achieving identified goals * Provides regular follow up to potential students in an efficient and timely manner either via telephone, email, or other electronic means. Makes educated admissions decisions regarding fulfillment of admission requirements and follow-up strategies * Protects the privacy of student accounts through compliance with federal student privacy law (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act). * Evaluates the academic records and documents of potential students for admission to APUS programs. * Demonstrates skill in using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other software applications used in Admissions. * Resolves routine and escalated concerns with and on behalf of potential students in a professional, efficient manner. * Maintains a productive working relationship with other University departments, such as Financial Aid, Fulfillment, Veteran and GI Bill assistance, Student Services and Marketing. * Meets or exceeds performance goals and metrics as determined by department leadership. * Keeps a professional appearance at all times. * Adheres to assigned work schedule * Follows campaigns and follow-up strategies for student recruitment and enrollment * Performs other duties and assists with special projects as assigned by department leadership * Per the US Department of Education Program Integrity Rules, postsecondary institutions that participate in the student financial assistance programs pursuant to Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA) are barred from providing incentive payments to any person or entity engaged in student recruiting and/or admissions activities. The Opportunity: West Liberty University is seeking applications for two Admission Counselors. The Admissions Counselor performs work activities to recruit prospective students, including leading institution information sessions and providing guidance throughout the admissions process. The Admissions Counselor is an entry-level professional position responsible for traveling to various high schools or college fairs to provide information to potential students to try and motivate them to apply to the institution. Additional responsibilities may include assisting in recruitment efforts by giving input to admissions public relations campaigns. Job responsibilities require the ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with college faculty, staff, administration, students, and members of the community and the public. Work is performed under general direction, working from established policies and objectives. Problems are faced in this position are varied and complex, which may require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. The Admissions Counselor exercises judgment in prioritizing, planning, and organizing own work within time, process, and results requirements; has some flexibility to modify workflow based on need and circumstances. Decisions contribute the overall strategy and direction of the division/entire institution and errors could easily result in major costs, problems, and disruptions within the affected area. Essential Functions of the position: * Counseling, Advising and admissions Application Processing-counsel students regarding admission requirements and process, * Recruitment- Travel in-state and out of state college/ transfer fairs. * Transfer Evaluation- Evaluate college transcripts from prospective and accepted transfer students. * Assist with all on campus programs and conduct information sessions and campus tours to prospective students and their families. * Assist and manage "alternative" recruiting efforts including but not limited to social media, communication plans, orientation and registration for new students, ambassadors, etc. * Manages an assigned recruitment territory, which includes developing/maintaining relationships with and providing service to high school personnel; attending college fairs and visit high schools; completing requisite paperwork prior to and after the completion of a recruitment trip; and making necessary travel arrangements. * Follows up with students and their parents by sending packets of information and by making phone calls. * Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the recruitment plan for assigned area of responsibility in outreach recruitment or alumni/ parent recruitment volunteers for the admissions area to support the enrollment goals of the institution. * Assume responsibility for the management and oversight of a territory budget. * Participates in office recruitment activities and special events. * Conducts group presentations and may give campus tours to prospective applicants and their parents. * Counsels' students and parents regarding the admissions process. * Assists prospective students in gathering the necessary information they need to make an informed decision about the institution and navigating the various processes and offices to enroll at the institution. * Provides follow-up correspondence and individual counseling to prospective students via in-person meetings, e-mail, telephone, and U.S. mail. * Reviews applicant files. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements: * Required a bachelor's degree in related field. * Required at least two years in related field including student employment experience. * Preferred a master's degree in Related field. Skills/Abilities: * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Strong organization and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and other university departments.
