Frontend Software Engineer, Intern
Program development internship job in Los Angeles, CA
At Machina Labs, we're reshaping manufacturing through advanced robotics and machine learning. Our platform uses the largest 6-axis robots on the market to form 2D sheets of metal into complex 3D parts, layer-by-layer. Traditional sheet metal production was designed for scale, not flexibility. It relies on costly dies and tooling that make lower volume projects prohibitively slow and expensive. We're changing that. Whether you're a startup building a few thousand airframes or an automaker prototyping next-generation components, Machina Labs gives you the ability to iterate and manufacture at the speed of software.
With support from the venture arms of Toyota, NVIDIA, and Lockheed Martin, we're accelerating the future of manufacturing, one where factories are flexible, production is on-demand, and innovation is unconstrained.
About the Role
As a Frontend Software Engineer Intern, you'll join our agile engineering team to help build intuitive, visually stunning user interfaces that let users interact with our robotic systems and real-time data. Your work will directly impact how engineers, operators, and customers control, monitor, and visualize advanced manufacturing workflows. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply your creativity in solving complex UI challenges and gain exposure to robotics, data visualization, and cutting-edge software development.
What You'll Do
* Collaborate with engineers and designers to build responsive, performant frontend applications using React and TypeScript.
* Develop and iterate on user-facing tools for visualizing real-time robot and manufacturing data.
* Prototype and implement intuitive UI/UX flows for internal tools and external-facing dashboards.
* Contribute to 3D visualization components for robot status, simulation, and process monitoring (optionally using Three.js or WebGL).
* Work closely with backend engineers to integrate and visualize live production data via APIs.
* Support the design system and help ensure visual and functional consistency across Machina Labs software products.
* Participate in team code reviews, agile ceremonies, and brainstorming sessions to shape product features and technical solutions.
What We're Looking For
* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
* Expected to complete or have completed final degree within one year of the internship's end.
* Experience with React (or similar framework) and TypeScript through coursework, personal projects, or internships.
* Understanding of core UI/UX principles and frontend development best practices.
* Ability to work with design tools such as Figma and a willingness to iterate rapidly based on team feedback.
* Interest in robotics, manufacturing, or building tools for real hardware systems.
* Strong communication skills and eagerness to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
Nice to Have
* Experience integrating or building 3D visualization components in web applications (e.g., using Three.js, WebGL, or similar)
* Familiarity with cloud-based deployment workflows (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
* Familiarity with OpenAPI and/or GraphQL
* Familiarity with machine learning and large datasets processing/visualization
* Experience building tools for hardware, robotics, or data visualization
$20 - $35 an hour

Software Engineer Intern
Program development internship job in Torrance, CA
What we're building Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: Boats are special - but they're loud, pollutant, unreliable, and stuck in the past. Gas-powered boats dominate not because they're great, but because no better option has existed. Until now.
Arc is here to change that. We're building 100% electric boats from the ground up - quicker, quieter, easier to maintain, and better for the water they ride on. We're not just swapping gas for batteries. We're rethinking every detail on the boat - from propulsion and powertrain to software and ownership model - applying first-principles engineering from aerospace and EVs to deliver a better boating experience.
Electric boats haven't taken over yet. The tech hasn't been ready. The talent hasn't been focused here. That's our opportunity - and we're moving fast.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone who's fired up by our mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you adapt quickly, take ownership, and care about the details.
You will join our Software team as a summer intern from June 15th-August 21st 2026. You will work from our headquarters in Torrance, CA and report to our Manager, Software. Given that we're a startup, you will be working in a fast-moving, dynamic environment that requires adaptability. That said, here are some responsibilities and qualifications we expect to stay relatively constant for this role.
Core responsibilities
* Contributing to the boat infotainment unit, mobile app, backend, or boat firmware
* Owning a project end-to-end that meaningfully drives the business forward
* Collaborating with members of the software team as well as other stakeholders
Basic qualifications
* Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, or a related field.
* Familiarity with at least one general purpose programming language
* Strong software development fundamentals
* Productive with standard software development tools (an IDE, git, the command line, etc.)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic setting.
* Ability to effectively communicate progress and status of your work
Bonus qualifications
* Experience with one of:
* A track record of successful internships
* Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
* Enthusiasm for boating and clean energy
* Targeting graduation in 2026 or already graduated. Arc does not require a specific major.
At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You're always welcome to reach out even if you don't meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.
Our values
We move with urgency and build with care. We value these five things above all else:
* Ownership over both your work and the company's success
* Empathy for colleagues and for customers
* Humility in problem solving and collaboration
* Pragmatism for navigating ambiguity quickly and sensibly
* Inclusion of different backgrounds, opinions, cultures, and perspectives.
We want people who share and embody these values. It is vital that our values align - we'd be happy to elaborate on any or all of these during the interview process.
What we offer
We don't think great work happens by accident. We invest in the people building Arc - because when you're supported, you do your best work.
* Hourly Wage: $40/hr
* Daily lunches, plenty of snacks, lots of swag, and more
* Boat days - Yes, we actually go out on the water. A lot.
* A chance to define the future of boating
* Talented teammates that challenge you to be better
* Access and often input to a wide range of business activities
